Chapter 14

I made out his face slowly due to my blurred vision, but I couldn't get a good glance before I looked down. Mind burning the image of a smirking mouth, red eyes and dark black hair.

Wait!- red eyes?

"I'm glad you enjoy it your highness" I expected the tea cup to be placed down immediately, but he continued to hold it in his hand.

Did he truly like it that much? Haven't I already messed up?!

"You don't need to needlessly flatter me by finishing the tea" I blurted.

"My apologies" came that silky voice, "I have drunken the most bizarre tea tonight so I'm enjoying this very much".

I couldn't help but notice he dragged his words in a way that made me feel like I was getting teased…

"You… have a rather peculiar eye colour, your majesty. I don't think I've seen it before" I wasn't sure where I mustered the courage to say that.

"Then why don't you take a better look?" I felt my body stiffen all over.

"My eyesight is quite bad at night and I wouldn't dare blatantly stare at you" I replied, head sinking further down as I felt an invisible blade at my neck.

"Yet you blatantly run your mouth".

I flinched in fear.

"My apologies your highness. I didn't mean to offend you!"

What in the hell was I thinking?! What made me run my mouth!

"Don't be so stiff. Everyone makes mistakes, but I enjoy this tea too much to punish you", again the way he dragged his words… "red eyes are something I inherited from my mother. It's a trait unique to vampires".

Vampires?

"Then… may I be so brazen to ask, are there many vampires in the palace?" I should just jump out of the window, but the thought of Jules and his eyes had me wanting know.

"Why? Do you fear them?" He taunted.

"No. Not at all. I was just asking out of curiosity" I explained calmly.

"The empire will send delegates at times" he answered.

"I see", I was going to stumble if I keep bowing like this, "Thank you for answering that your highness. I won't forget the mercy you've shown me" I curtsied deep as I made a move to leave.

"Please Relax. I may marry you after all".

When I reached the table I originally used and set my tray down, I found that my legs could barely support me.

"He drank your tea…" Crystal muttered beside me with a shocked. In fact, most of the people in the room seemed to be looking at me, "He spoke with you too and he was smiling really wide" she looked to me in shock before she asked, "what did you put in that tea?!"

I was too tired to deal with this.

"I made a normal cup of tea" I replied while holding my head.

Had I truly made him smile? Why is everything going terrible!?

"You're lying" Crystal accused.

"Do you think I'd put anything in that tea. I thought he would be dissatisfied with my lack of creativity… I didn't think he wanted a normal cup of tea" I hit my head on the table, tears further blinding me, "I should've spat in it or something" I groaned.

"You- You can't be serious… that means I pricked my hand for no reason" Crystal let out a depressed sigh.

"Maybe I'll fail due to my rudeness in speaking" I said with hope.

"I don't know if you were rude Mads, because the prince was laughing the entire time" Crystals voice shattered my hope.

I stared at her as hope began to leave me.

"Is death my only solace?"

We were told to return to our rooms and that we'd be sent the results in the morning.

I may have just been half asleep, but I noticed some of the servants bowing a bit too deeply to me.
