Chapter 26

I stilled and then slowly lifted my eyes to him. Everyone stared at me and my throat burned to answer. I had to answer. That was no question. But how could I answer in a way that wouldn't have me impressing anyone.

"I think… " I looked away trying to buy time, "Maybe the bill would be too costly for Grandor as it is".

I thought that would be satisfactory.

"Is that an insult?"

My head shot up, eyes clashing with narrowed red eyes that stared me down like I was a thief caught red handed. Jules voice was cold, much colder than I had ever heard and there was no teasing that would give away he was joking.

He was serious.

This was no joke, I could actually get in trouble.

My fingers began to shake and my flight or fight sense switched.

"I was simply suggesting that another source of income should be sort towards the hospital" I could barely keep my words from stuttering with the sheer intensity of his eyes.

"And what type of 'source of income' would you think of?"

I answered without a thought, feeling the sense of a knife at my throat.

"I would look to open the hospital with built in stores. The prices of the products there would be slightly raised in comparison to your usual so profits head towards the hospital. Taking into account the hospital would mostly be open to commoners I would try to advertise the stores to nobility. Cafes of some kind…" I rambled continuously until I caught sight of the smirk on the Jules face and stopped.

My brain completely stopped. It wasn't at his overwhelming beauty when his lips tilted up, but the strange look of triumph in his eyes.

He… He tricked me.

And I fell right into his trap.
