Chapter 11: The Homecoming
Amanda swallowed. It had to be one of the pups; this looked exactly like what Levi had told her to look for. Of course, that didn’t necessarily mean she was out of danger. Baby wolves had teeth just as real as adult wolves did, and these two probably felt backed into a corner. Going by Levi’s opinion of humans, she also had to assume they didn’t like her any better than he did.
She crouched down, wondering if it was the dumbest thing she’d ever do, and then tossed the blanket carefully near the opening to the den. “Hey,” she said, soothingly. “It’s okay, I’m not going to hurt you.”
The pup crawled out of the den, the fur on its back standing on end. It continued to growl, barking loud enough to startle her into falling back on her butt. She watched it with wide eyes, hoping Levi was right about his scent.
