Chapter 22: The Inquisition

“Happy to see me?” Jed mocked.

Amanda swallowed back her disappointment as fear rose steadily in its place. This man had killed to get to Levi before. She had to be calm, cool, and collected. She had to be removed from the situation entirely.

“I thought you were my hot neighbor,” she drawled. She acted bored, leaning against the door frame, and hoped it blocked his view of the inside of the house, even though she knew there was no trace of Levi and the pups left in the main room. “This is private property, you know.”

“Yeah, hard to reach. I’ve been looking for you.”

Jed stepped closer to the door. “I know you’ve seen him.”

“Your wolf? No, I haven’t.”

“Don’t lie to me,” he hissed. “I know that Levi was here.”

She blinked at him. Quickly, she formulated a lie. Tilting her head to the side, she said, “You know Levi?”

His eyes shined, almost feverish. “Yes,” he said. “I need to find him.”
