Chapter 33: The Last Kiss

Before she knew it, lunch had concluded, and the kids and Levi were once again packed up and ready to go.

There was nothing left to say. And yet, Amanda felt that she could have spent hours more simply talking to Levi about the could-have-beens, searching frantically for some way to make it work. Her chest swelled with the desire to keep by Levi’s side, even as she told herself she couldn’t reasonably consider it.

Amanda couldn’t even muster a smile as the pups dashed out into the snow, comically saddled with bags once again. She just stared up at Levi, wanting deeply, and already breaking apart with the knowledge that there was nothing to be done for it.

“See you around,” Amanda said, trying for a light tone, but ending up sounding choked.

“See you around,” Levi parroted. “Sweatheart.”
