Chapter 34: The Attack
Amanda whimpered as she was forced to her knees in the backyard. The cold bit at her through her jeans, her legs throbbing in protest of the rough treatment she was being dealt. On her left, there was a woman with a nasty smirk, and on the right, a man with a hard face. Jed stood in front of her, hands linked behind his back. The man to her right grabbed a fistful of Amanda’s hair and yanked her head back, forcing her to look up at their leader.
She grit her teeth and glared. “He’s gone, Jed. You lost.”
Jed towered over her. “So feisty,” he said. “I can see why Levi took a shine to you. He’s always liked a challenge.”
She spit at him, but Jed stepped back out of the way, laughing.
“He’s not coming back.”
“He came for you once,” he said. “I bet we could get him to do it again. Call for him.”
She blinked at him. “Wh… what?”
“Call for him.”
“Levi doesn’t have a phone,” she said, genuinely confused.
