Chapter 39: The Pack
Amanda turned slowly, as though her limbs had been iced over. Her eyes went wide at the sight of the man standing bare-chested behind her, aiming the gun at her head. She swallowed, shovel dropping from her hands as she shakily raised them to show she was unarmed.
“Come out, brats,” the man ordered.
“Run,” Amanda whispered.
The barrel of the gun jutted into her stomach. “Run and Mommy here dies. Come out, now.”
The pups slinked forward, shaking visibly, whines high in their throats.
“All this f***ing trouble over a couple of whelps,” he grit out. “Where’s Jed, b**ch?
“F-fighting Levi,” she whispered. “In the forest.”
“Guess we better give him a reason to give up, then. Come on, march.”
Amanda stayed rooted to the spot despite the trembling of her limbs.
The man rolled his eyes, quickly turning the gun on the pups, who flattened to the floor.
