Chapter 21: Misunderstood

TALLIA

The day after the attack, Liza and I went down to breakfast like it was any other day. The table was crowded with all kinds of shifters, and several bowed their heads respectfully to me as I entered.

But as I made my plate from the buffet, there were several more who watched me with wary eyes.

I sighed and took my place at the table. Because there were more people than normal, Liza had to sit down with the rest of the omegas. We should start going to lunch later so she could sit with me.

Liza shot me a sheepish smile, and I gave her a kind one in turn. It wasn't her fault that shifters thrived off of hierarchy. It wasn't her fault that I hated it.

"How are you, Luna Queen?" a female asked from two places down. I could smell that she was some kind of bird and a gamma.

"Fine," I answered with a smile.

"It's so good you weren't hurt yesterday. We wouldn't want anything to happen to you since you're not capable of fighting."
