Joshua hated just standing there in the open door beside Brody, saying goodbye to everyone and accepting their thank yous for all the hard work that evening. Moments earlier, Henry had given Brody the cash for the night but Joshua was too preoccupied watching Ivory to notice how much there was. They could have both cried for not being able to give each other a proper goodbye, so much so that Joshua refused to watch the door be closed and began walking away from the house before Brody.
Henry closed the door on Brody with a nod, turning to Maybella and Ivory with a faint smile. He cleared his throat before retrieving a cigarette to light and stepped closer to them, tapping the stick on his hand. “What a nice night,” Henry said. “I almost forgot! Rufus will be returning next week.”
