Chapter 35: Watching Over Her

***Grey’s POV

I walked away from Emma before I weakened and agreed to stay. Shifting as soon as I reached the woods, I ran, leaving my heart behind with her.

It was a good thing our love making had been interrupted. It would have been much harder to leave her if we had joined our bodies as our souls were already joined.

I had no choice but leave, even if she couldn’t see it. It was crucial for her and the reforming pack to bond during this time of transition. That would be accomplished much quicker and easier for everyone without me by her side.

Emma didn’t seem to notice the disgust in some of the elder’s eyes when they looked at me. But I did.

Many of them wanted me to see the look of hatred on their faces. They wanted to remind me that it was my father’s fault the pack had dissolved. Even though they were forbidden by shifter law to say his name, my father’s heinous crime was common knowledge among these older shifters. It was obvious they had not forgotten.
