Chapter 18

I did not comprehend why she will ask me that question at such an odd hour, but I was clear and polite enough when I said,

"Nothing to worry about, just had somethings to do," I replied.

"Alright, Sir, looking forth in seeing you in the morning," she added then the line went dead.

'What the fuck just happened? was Vera playing with me or what?' I wondered.

Pulling my head up, I noticed that Megan had her eyes on me, her mouth agape as she was astonished.

"Close your mouth you might swallow a fly," I provoked her.

Megan did as she was told yet her bewilderment knew no bound. Curiosity did not leave her too as she questioned her voice quivering.

"I didn't know the most notorious business guru in the whole of Cameroon had a girlfriend," she said still in shock.

"What?" I exploded.

"Yes, you have a lover yet you keep flirting with me, please Mr. Larry, stay away from me I do not want to be the love barrier that will stand between you and the love of my mind," she stuttered.

I burst out laughing seeing how ridiculous she was.

"I am very serious about this, please just stay away from me," Megan begged.

"Why are you talking about?" I inquire finding this show amusing.

"I am talking about your girlfriend who just called you," she said.

"You are too funny little one, that was my Secretary in my office," I answered her honestly.

The embarrassment that was plastered on Megan's face knew no bound, she tossed her head to the other side of the bed averting her eyes from me.

"Who cares whether Nicholas Larry is married or not?" I inquired though she wasn't looking at me, I knew she could hear me perfectly.

Her reply was sarcastic particularly as it served as a blow to my person.

"Many people do care and the faster you look for a lady and marry, some ladies will not rest trying to seduce you and running away with your money," Megan said not looking at me.

I got furious with what she said and overreacted. I kicked the chair to the far end of the room as it hit the door.

I do not know why I had overreacted but I was so done with this outspoken wimp of a lady.

Megan's reaction to my uncontrollable anger is that she jumped from the bed panicking.

I did not care, her words had incurred more than life damages, and unless I walk out peacefully I might say something much hurtful than what she actually said.

Walking out of the room, I slammed the door so had it almost shook the whole building apart.

I walked out of the room heading towards my car. All I prayed, for now, was that dawn to arrive so fast so I can untangle myself from her.

I do not even know who entangled me to her in the first place, her loud mouth had done the deal for me.

Megan's P.O.V

I regretted what I had just said immediately as it left my mouth. I did not wish to make it sound the way it but Nick had over-pushed me to the wall with his nagging questions.

I was left alone in the room and although I loved solitude, this was excess loneliness. At least if I was home I wouldn't have felt this.

'You have to apologize to him,'. my conscious piked me.

Alright, I acknowledge that I had run my tongue too much, and demanding for an apology was the only means through which things could be better.

At least, I've gotten him out of my way, but that means I wouldn't be able to have my job back__ unless the Manager decides to

pay me__ and that wouldn't be possible, Nicholas will surely raise an alarm and before I know it, I will be receiving a sack letter before the day comes to an end.

7:35 a.m

My wound was cleaned by the nurses, as I cried throughout the process. The wounds were still fresh as a red patch of flesh was outside.

"Oh, it hurts so much," I wept.

After about an hour of working on me, I sat on the bed with a long line of wireless thread passed on my flesh and another one just below, a plastered wound. It was now bandaged therefore hiding it from public view.

These bike riders in Douala are so heartless, what if I would have hit my head on the road and lost my life, who should have been held responsible?

Absolutely not them because I was the person that wasn't looking at where I was going to.

Despite the fact that this is a serious injury, it would not have happened if I would have come to compromising terms with Nicholas.

'By now, I would not have been hurt,' I told myself thoughtfully.

My legs were stretched out, as I blew air on it hoping that it surges the pain from me.

The nurse was about to leave the room when I intercepted her with my question,

"Excuse me, nurse, please when will I be discharged?" I inquired.

She replied humbly, "Anytime soon, maybe after when Sir Nicholas is done talking with the Doctor,"

I was shocked that Nicholas was still in the hospital and before I could say any further, Nicholas entered the room glancing from the nurse to me and back to her.

She curtseyed before leaving the room closing the door behind her.

There was a grave silence as no one dared start the conversation.

In Nicholas's hands, he carried a pair of crutches to enable me to walk especially as the pains had increased overnight.

Leaning them on the bed, he brought the packet containing the drugs and as the doctor had instructed, he repeated them for me to hear clearly.

"I hope you don't confuse them, if not, you'll be sorry for yourself," Nicholas joked.

I rolled my eyes.
