Chapter 31: Serpent's Way

I clear my throat and sit up. ‘What is he saying right now?’

“W-what do you mean?” I ask.

“I’ve been biding my time to finally see you again,” he says and takes my hands. His are cold, as usual but they warm from our shared embrace.

“I’ve been waiting to see you, as well,” I say, more to the skirt of my dress than to him. He chuckles and raises my face with a soft caress.

“Your father says that your business is about to take off. Has everything been going well?” ,e asks.

I nod and fill him in on the plan I had before. Buy all of the void dive spots because they were the cheapest way to obtain property and ascend to nobility. “Then, of course, having them, I had to check if there were any gems or materials down there. You wouldn’t believe what I found! An entire trove of goods. It’s massive, but pretty deep underwater and without our pressurized suits we definitely wouldn’t be able to reach it. I’m sure that’s why other divers said it was void.”
