That evening, Micah met with Stony in an empty conference room at the hotel. Guests had started arriving for his dad’s campaign party, and he could hear their voices filling up the ballroom outside.
As he finished telling Stony about Rory’s name written on the enclosure at the zoo, he could tell by Stony’s expression that his response would not be positive.
“So what did you tell Jessa?” Stony asked.
“I told her the Rogue Shifter has dissociated and is probably trying to intimidate me by targeting Rory.”
Stony looked skeptical. “And Jessa bought that?”
“I don’t know. But what’s more believable? The lie? Or that my fake girlfriend got bit by the Rogue One, and not only survived, but is now becoming one of us. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Others started watching her now.”
“That’s not the worst idea,” Stony said. “If the Rogue One has identified her by name, it means the Red Bond is fully clicked in. The more protection she has the better. And I think you’re right.”
