Chapter 3. [Small fry]

It's been what seemed like a few hours since Hoshi got to the training dungeon. It's hard to track time without any clocks or not being able to see the sky, so the guy was unsure. Everything has been going smoothly as all of the monsters were easy to deal with so far. He had to thank his mom mostly for making Hoshi train with her from time to time and teaching her son some moves. Of course, Hoshis experience as a gamer also helped out.

"This is so boring..." It didn't take long for Hoshi to start talking to himself, he did so before getting into the dungeon, too, but it has become more frequent singe getting into the dungeon. He was now level three, steadily raising his level and becoming stronger. But it was too slow. Up until now it was just the same small bug monsters who gave barely any experience for leveling up, or XP in gamer slang.

[Congratulations on defeating 100 «Bug monster lvl.1»!]

[You have earned the title «Bug exterminator »!]

[Reward: 50 points]

A hundred already?! Argh, this is torture! His whole soul was screaming for a challenge. And, as if the dungeon heard the guys cries, it answered. As Hoshi stepped into a more open area, he took one of the torches off the wall to be able to explore more in detail. It looked like an overgrown and abandoned temple. There were big pieces of broken stone statues and columns.

"This place looks like a boss room..." He mumbled, his eyes trailing across the walls. As if on command, a loud groan echoed off the walls. It definitely didn't sound like the usual bug monsters. Hoshi almost got a heart attack, but after calming himself, he decided to get close enough to the thing to see the things stats window, as the majority of the monsters had them. The first time he used it on a bug monster, it was something like this.

After a quick bonk on the head, they fall down dead with their loot to collect, which mostly was a few points, some leveling up XP and scraps of cloth and wood. But this one... this one was different. It was different, bigger, stronger... Harder.

Finally, Hoshi got close enough for the system to detect it.

The guys eyes widened as an unsettling feeling set in. C tier?! From N straight to C? Are you kidding me?! I'm level fucking three, and it's not even a boss?! I have a six percent chance... Six! As he was internally screaming, the monster woke up, moving it's stiff limbs, cracking each bone it had.

[Etity «Spider boss» used skill «Freezing fear»]

[You are unable to move.]

With a screeching scream it disappeared from its sleeping position in a flash, leaving Hoshi frozen in place. His body was ridden with fear, stopping Hoshi from running, fighting, or breathing. Anything. Anything was better than just standing there like a dumbass. He thought. The monster seemed to go deeper into the dungeon, still feeling sleepy, not caring about the small fry that Hoshi was to it.

[New mini-quest available!]

[Mini-quest »My territory« available. Kill the »Spider boss« to complete the mini-quest.]

Me? Fighting that? Yeah, not happening right now. At some point it got far enough for its skill effects to wear off, and Hoshi was able to move again. Without stalling Hoshi instantly started running out of the big room and back into the corridor that he came from, breathing heavily. "What... The hell... Was that?"

[Gathering knowledge about «Spider boss»'s used skill...]

[Not able to gather enough information to obtain the skill.]

"Not enough? That thing literally went 'ARGH' and I couldn't move anymore just due to fear! That was cool, I want to do that!"

[Attempting to gather knowledge...]

[Taking in the knowledge gathered by the player...]

[Not able to gather knowledge to obtain the skill.]

Giving up, Hoshi slummed against a wall, breathing heavily. The guy found out that just by thinking about the system or a specific window, it pops up. Hoshi used that to open up his menu, and noticed a new option.

"Han... handbook." Hoshi muttered and wiped a drop of sweat from his forehead.

After taking a minute to rest, Hoshi went to the handbooks skills window. It was a place that stored every skill Hoshi has seen or experienced since getting into the training dungeon. The longer he was exposed to the skill, or if it was used on him, the more knowledge he will get about the skill. And sure enough, the fear skill the monster used was written about there.

[Skill: Freezing fear {unequipped}]

[Info: Freezing fear is a skill used by monsters to inflict fear into their prey, stopping them moving and immobilising them. /More information unavailable/]

There was a sound of something scratching the wall while walking towards Hoshi. He turned to see another bug monster. Being kind of pissed he slammed it against the floor. Killing his one hundred first bug.
