Just an ordinary man and not a general

Driving in the street, which he had not seen for the last couple of decades, made him wonder what else had changed, observing the city progressing with the many high scrapers rising, the bustling street full of people busily going on with their lives.

The new club, located in an elegant building, had a futuristic layout designed to fit the modern times. This part of the world caught up with the trend as fast expensive cars lined up the street ahead of him.

As soon as his foot entered the establishment, loud music resonated around him. Then, hands waving at him caught his attention among the swarming crowd.

A man shouted at him, calling his name. "Hey, Adam." One of his friends beckoned him to their table, instantly placing a glass of whiskey before him. "Welcome back, my prince." Isaac mockingly bowed to him.

Isaac was younger by a decade based on his age if compared to him, but his physical features still looked more mature than him. A son of one of his father's general, who transformed to be just like him by the venom of his bite.

Growing up together and fighting alongside each other had made them more like brothers. Just like him, his friend had thrived and adjusted to his immortality.

"You know I would not miss seeing an old friend." Tapping Isaac on the shoulder. "And I am glad that almost every one of the gang is here." Waving to the other soldiers who had worked with him in the past. These men also fought with him bravely throughout the centuries.

"You know they would not miss a chance for free drinks and some fun." Isaac jokingly said, raising his glass. Then everyone cheered, following his friend's lead, admiring him as their great leader.

"So, I guess this is my treat," Adam announced, his voice overpowering the group's loudness, making the other guests around them look in their direction.

A group of young individuals cowered in fear, concluding that they were aware of their true natures, avoiding eye contact as they pretended to enjoy their night.

Genuinely elated heartbeat indicated that they were humans only having a great time, unaware of the presence of supernaturals around them. They went on their business without a care.

"I heard that you almost got engaged," Isaac jested, slightly chuckling at his expense, cradling his drink with his hands.

Leaning on his seat, momentarily closing his eyes, he still recalled his fleeting encounter with his supposed to be future wife. His consciousness seemed to remember every tick of her heartbeat, making him question his good sense. Why?

"Well, as you said, almost." Answering his friend as his eyes opened again and scanned the room, studying what else was new with this place.

"So, are you still going to marry that girl?" Isaac raised his hand to the server, asking for another bottle for everyone on their large table. "If she finally returns or if they find her."

The other team members continued enjoying their drinks and bantering as the two of them continued with their private conversation.

"Not that I know of," Adam answered his friend. "I hope not." He was already relieved that the union did not push through, so why would he wish for it to continue.

Another of his men shouted, "To our general," raising his glass in his direction.

Lifting his glass to them, he finally joined their celebration. After all, it was him who had called for this reunion. However, his mind kept reverting to that girl who ran away.

Adam shook his head, clearing his thought and clanking his glass with his men. He would deal with her when the time came. Tonight, it was about him having fun.

Then, something caught his attention as his eyes zeroed in on her, a beautiful woman seemingly interested in him. He had noticed her earlier just as he entered the vicinity.

Taking a big swig of his drink, he stared at the girl on the other side of the room. Slowly, she started walking toward him as if a prey, willingly sacrificing herself to her predator.

"How do you do that?" Isaac followed his gaze and watched the stunning woman gradually sway her hips toward them. It was like a moth flying to the flame.

"Magic." Adam playfully answered his friend as his eyes gazed at his next prize.

"You should have used that talent on your bride. Maybe she would not have run away." Isaac again taunted him, laughing this time.

However, his attempt to be funny was not working, thinking his friend still had not improved his sense of humor after all these years.

Isaac was also good-looking, and he could get what he wanted just like him. He just loved to jest around and create mayhem. Seriousness was beyond him.

"In your defense, you never did have the chance to meet your bride from what I heard," Isaac shook his head, probably imagining the scenario of his failed engagement.

Grabbing his drink, he gulped it in one mouthful, ignoring his friend's remarks. Then, a new round of drinks circulated on their table, creating a raucous among his men.

Isaac leaned closer to him, not wanting anyone to overhear his question. "Do you have a plan regarding the Orsha pack and their kinds or that girl?" Not needing anyone to eavesdrop on their discussion.

But before his friend could say more, the girl stood before him, more alluring upfront. Without waiting for an invitation, she sat confidently on his lap, resting her arm on his broad shoulders.

"Do you want a drink?" His focus shifted to her while his hands automatically snaked on the woman's waist, liking how her exposed skin felt to his touch from the opening in her dress.

However, his friend's words left a lingering question in his mind, nagging him to come up with a plan. Should he go after her? Or should he command an all-offensive war against their enemies?

But, his eyes turned to the woman in his arms. She was what he needed at the moment. A distraction that would make him believe he was just an ordinary man and not a general, even for just one more night.
