Visiting the bookstore

Tom turned around as soon as he heard the soft jingle of the bell caused by opening the coffee shops door. He looked at Josh as a warm smile appeared on his face.

"We're going to the book store now, right? Its nearby and we still have time, dont we?" Tom said as he watched as Josh walked towards him.

Josh stopped walking once he reached Tom and he then fished into his pockets in search for his phone, he checked a couple of his pockets before being able to find it and once he did he pulled it out quickly and opened his phone to look at the time. He did so to check whether they really had enough time to go to the bookstore and go all the way back to campus in time for their next class.

"Yeah, let's go," Josh replied as he carefully slid his phone right back into his jeans' pockets.

They started walking towards the bookstore, it was only about a block away from where they currently were located, so they didn't think it neccesaey to catch a ride. They had also thought that it'd be a good oppprtintiy for them both to work of their calories.

"Now that I think about it… why do I have to walk too?" asked Tom after a while of walking in a brief silence.

"Well it's not too far and it's good excercise. And aren't you the one who suggested that I should work off the calories so I don't gain weight?" responded Josh with a quizzical look on his face.

"Well, yes. But you're the one who ate everything. Besides I said you should work off the calories, so why am I walking too?" Tom complained with a light pout on his lips.

"It's not far, there's no need to whine~ Besides don't we normally work out together often, whyre you phases by such a light amount of excercise?" Asked Josh, "Losing your touch already, are you?" He added as a smirk found its way upon his face.

"No, no, I haven't lost my touch! You just stole all the food I had ordered for myself. I didn't get to eat a single bite so now I'm hungry, you want me to die from starvation or what?" Tom said with an mock annoyed tone as he crossed his arms across his chest.

"I mean… If you die of hunger your parents will no longer need to pay for such a large food bill. Nor would they need to pay for the gallons of water you use everyday in the shower, not to mention the amount of water you use when you wash your face, hands, the amount you use when you brush your teeth…" Stated Josh as he looked off into the distance whilst counting out the multitude of things that Tom's disapearance would cause that would benefit his parents on his fingers.

When Josh had reached ten things and had ran out of fingers he began putting his fingers back down and counting out more before Tom seemed to have had enough and patted Josh on the back gently.

"Hey, hey. No need to finish that long as fuck list, I know what we should do. Come on! Let's just run there! It'll be faster and since you're just so slow in general we need to hurry to be on time anyway, right?" Tom called out, excitement evident in his voice.

Josh raised his eyebrows for a second as if asking "what are you even going on about now?", he then smiled and replied to Tom, "Sure, I'm down."

"Yeah, so let's hurry and get started!" Exclaimed Tom as he was about to start running before a thought struck Josh and he clasped into Tom's shoulder. Thsi caused Tom to turn around slightly to face Josh once again and to stop in his tracks.

"Wait, didn't you also say before that I stole the food you ordered? I told you, my memory might be selective at times, but it's not downright awful. You literally forced me to eat them! What're you trying to pull? Starving, what sort of awful lie is that, you didn't even want or plan on eating in the first place." Exclaimed Josh with a helpless expression on his face.

Tom only looked at him with a cheeky grin plastered on his face and turned back around and began running towards the direction in which the bookstore was located.

Josh stood rooted to the spot for the second and blinked before he realised that Tom had taken off, "Hey! Wait up!" he called as soon as he realised that Tom was soon to be out of his sight. He then took off right after him and tried his best to catch up. Josh's only thought being "how troublesome" as a warm smile found its way upon his face.

The pair of boys kept running until they arrived at the bookstore, once they reached it they both started slowing down until they stopped right in front of it.

"Hey, I won!" called out Tom as his eyes closed and the grin on his face widened considerably, his arms were also raised into the air and stretched out as much as possible.

"Hey, you didn't say it was a race." complained Josh

"I didn't know you were a sore loser. Well I guess you do learn new things every day." Replied Tom as he winked at Josh cheekily.

Josh only watched in silence as he stared blankly back at Tom, after a moment of silence he let out a sigh and looked back at the bookstore.

The bookstore wasn't too hard to spot thanks to it being so big, it was a relatively plain building with a sign above the entrance that read "Phoenix Novels". The windows were glass panes and the signs on top of each window had different titles on them.

Josh's favorite novel on display was the one that read "Percy Jackson". Once he had finished admiring the display he walked over to the door and opened it, he turned to Tom and gestures for him to come inside.

The bookstore was quiet, there was barely anyone inside the building apart the two boys. They opened the door and made sure to walk in slowly and quietly, so they wouldn't disturb the patrons that were inside.

Josh walked straight towards the bookshelf near the counter and grabbed a random book, he looked it over quickly before he looked away and scanned the other titles on the shelf. He put it back as he turned around and walked towards Tom who was standing in front of the counter.

"What are you doing?" asked Josh as he watched Tom place the book on the counter.

"I'm buying this book," answered Tom, his eyebrows raised slightly in's response or the question.

"You sure chose quickly." Stated Josh as he looked back at Tom, choosing to ignore the questioning look he was receiving due to the convo outs question he asked.
