Allow me to love fictiously

As soon as Lola walked in, my eyes darted towards the front door and it followed her until she walked up to the couch I was seated on.

"Hi", I turned off the TV as soon as she started moving towards me, focusing entirely on her.

She stared me down long enough for me to notice that she gritted her teeth before saying, "Hey"

"Where's Rea?" I looked around as though my one-year old baby would suddenly appear. "I wasn't able to see her before leaving for work today."

My heart sink even as the words left my mouth. It's easier to think about it than it is to acknowledge it loudly.

"Only today?" Hysteria laughter bubbled out of her lips before she continued, "That has happened every day of the week for the past three weeks."

And I know that fully well. It hurts me too, but to have it thrown in my face in this manner hurts. It hurts more than it even should.
