Police Station
Mr Doug, the detective who questioned Iyare, shared his thoughts with Tim and Jerry. They went over all the evidence and noted they took it earlier, but there was definitely nothing pointing at Iyare or her security men. This was because they never thought of the possibility that Cece was already dead before she got to the motel.
"I think your hunch is wrong for the first time," Tim concluded. The CCTV in the motel was already messed up. There is no way to prove that someone else was into the room, as no Other DNA was found at the crime scene.
"Andrew's DNA was found on Cece, but that could have happened when he tried to torture her. Besides, according to them, their reason for setting her free was to tail her and see if she would make contact with whoever sent her. So even if we get surveillance footage of any of them being around the crime scene, they have a vailed reason to be there," Jerry commented.
Mr Doug knew he was right; Sam even gave them the footage from the torture room. This proves beyond reasonable doubt that they had nothing to do with the murder. Of course, there was no footage of when Iyare decided to kill Cece, as the Camera was turned off. The police were unsure of how long they were gone, so they could not tell the footage was incomplete.
They were still cross-checking everything when an officer stepped in to inform them that a young man was there to see the officer in charge of Cece's case.
The young man claimed to have some evidence with him, the officer informed them. The three detectives immediately went out to meet the young man.
"My name is Justin, and I am Cece's younger brother. I am here today so my sister would get justice," the young man said.
"Go ahead; we heard you have evidence?" Tim asked.
"Yes, I do. Two months ago, my sister gave me this package. She asked me to take it to the nearest police station if anything happened to her.
When I saw the news this morning..." The man made a dramatic pause and looked at the men in front of him. He looked as if he was trying to determine if he could trust them. "I decided to come here. I think someone may have threatened her; please give my sister Justice," Justin pleaded with them. His eyes were red and swollen. One could easily tell he had been morning his sister.
"Let me look at the package," Tim immediately offered. The young man passed him the package.
Tim opened it and noticed a hard drive and a handwritten note. Jerry immediately brought in a laptop, and they inserted the hard drive into the computer and found the content.
It was a video of Charles and Cece in a hotel room. In the footage, Charles and Cece discuss their plans to poison Mr Onasa.
Charles handed over the poison to be used to Cece and explained how she should add it to her boss's food little by little.
After seeing the video, they read the handwritten note. Which read
( If you are reading this note, it means I got murdered. And I hope you also see the video attached to it. I do not trust Charles, and I fear he will kill me when he is done using me. This is why I created this video and letter as evidence, in case something happened to me.
If he was capable of killing his best friend because of money, then I guess he could also turn on me someday.
I guess my death is my punishment, but Please get me justice.
Cece).
When they were done reading the note, they looked at each other. Before now, they could not find Charles's motive for killing Cece. Even after Iyare informed them about the poison, they never really attracted it to Cece's murder. After all, it would have been stupid for Cece to plan a meeting with Charles if he was involved, right? After what they just watched and read, everything seems clear enough. Meaning Cece was stupid.
Mr Doug shook his head; maybe his hunch was wrong this time.
"We will verify this information and get justice for your sister," Tim informed Justin before they asked him to leave.
After Justin left them alone, they watched the video again. Before taking it to the IT section to verify if the video was real.
They immediately called Iyare's mansion to ask for any book that Cece's handwriting could be found.
They already believed in the evidence they found, but Doug wanted to be sure because of the hunch he had earlier.
About an hour later, Peter arrived with one of Cece's books and dropped it with them. Peter also used this opportunity to get information about the case's progress. He found out the new details on the evidence brought in by Justin. He also confirms the content before leaving.
The book brought in by Peter was checked. Then it is used to confirm the handwriting on the note.
The video was also verified to be authentic and not photoshopped or edited in any way. Tim also got Mr Onasa's medical report to find out what caused his death and, as expected, heart attack.
"Prepared an arrest warrant for Mr Charles," Doug gave the order. As a detective who has been in service for more than two decades, he knew that some substances could be used to trigger a heart attack in a person. He and his team believed in justice, no matter who was involved.
He decided to forget all about his hunch since Mr Charles was not innocent himself. After all, the head of the station will close the case since there was enough evidence.
...
While all this was happening, Mr Charles had already made contact with a senator friend to use his influence to suppress the news and end the investigation.
"Mr Charles, I am afraid that will not be possible. The detective handling your case can not easily be suppressed. I suggest you eliminate any evidence that can be used against you," the senator advised.
"Besides, the current head of the criminal department is related to the governor of the state, and Justice is the man's watchword. I am sorry," the senator explained.
Charles was disappointed at this response, but there was nothing he could do.
The senator's hands were indeed tied. When he heard the news earlier, he made up his mind to help Charles. After all, he needed to be on good terms with the next president of the Ona group.
Money and influence were a crucial part of politics, and having someone like Charles on his side would be worth it.
Unfortunately for him, Doug's team were the one handling the case. He could not even suppress the news since Roy's group was behind the information.
If Mr Charles was going down, the Senator did not plan to go down with him. He did not want to have Roy's group as enemies. So all he could do was watch.
