Unexpected Company (Ch.8)

Kelevi emerged into another alleyway, his lips stretching into a small smirk when he saw the prey leaned against a wall panting heavily.

Kelevi commended the prey's efforts, he had run quite a distance through the alleyway even on his unsteady footing.

The prey must have believed he had escaped Kelevi and took a moment to rest, if only he knew, he could never outrun the King of the Fanged.

The prey's eyes widened as he noticed Kelevi, he tried to make a run for it but Kelevi materialized before him in the blink of an eye,

His fingers were wrapped around the prey's neck as he lifted the prey's insignificant weight up.

The prey opened his mouth to speak but made the mistake of staring into Kelevi's eyes and then fell into a compel haze, tilting his neck to the side of his own will.

Kelevi hissed as the thumping of the prey's heart, the flow of blood through his veins, everything sounded so clear to Kelevi's hearing and oh so inviting.

Kelevi grazed a tongue over his fang before he swooped down, sinking his fangs into the tender neck of the prey.

Blood pooled into Kelevi's mouth and Kelevi groaned in delight, gulping down the addicting fluid.

The warm blood slid down his throat and Kelevi felt the strength return to him, his eyes grew sharper, his senses heightening even more as his fangs dug in even deeper.

Kelevi had not tasted blood since he arrived the human realm almost a month ago, he had been too focused on searching for his mate to have the free time to indulge.

At that time, he had been so anxious to find his beloved after centuries of waiting that it would not have mattered to him if he became starved of blood,

His mind had only been focused on one goal, finding her.

Now that he had, Kelevi could finally take a breather and tend to his body's needs,

He knew he would need all his strength if he wanted to win the heart of a certain beauty and get her to accept the fact that she was his, that all of her belonged to him...heart, soul, mind and body... everything.

The thought of his beloved thrilled Kelevi so much that he did not even realize he had sunk his fangs so deep that blood was dripping out his lips and down the neck of the prey.

His mind was clouded with thoughts of her alone, of how much he craved her, of how perfect she was, of how his wait had been worthwhile.

Kelevi groaned, just thinking of her like this, Kelevi swore he could even pick up her scent, it wafted all around him, driving him mad with longing and spurring on his drunken haze as though she was right there...

Clouded by his blood haze, Kelevi did not pick up the sound of footsteps approaching until it was too late,

It was not until he heard the sound of something clatter to the ground that Kelevi snapped out of it,

Kelevi's head snapped up just in time to catch a familiar face and his eyes widened in horror as he took in who stood before him, staring with a terrified gaze.

It was only now it came to Kelevi that he had not picked up her scent simply because she was on his mind, he had picked up her scent because she was actually right there...

Right before his eyes, staring at him drain a living man of his blood, her gaze horrified and eyes wide with panic.

His beloved was right here, his Kaylani was here, and she had seen him in his most primal state when he had not yet had the chance to prepare her for the truth.

The unconcious prey fell to the ground as Kelevi's mind reeled, no matter how much he thought, there was nothing he could do...

The one thing he could never and would never do was use the compel magic on his beloved and so he watched, his heart dropping to the pit of his stomach as his terror stricken beloved turned and ran away from him.

Kelevi did not dare give chase, there was nothing he could say, nothing he could do to remedy this situation...all he could do was watch,

And the farther away from him she went, Kelevi felt his undead heart break, one cold and emotionless piece after another.
