A Vampire Next Door (Ch.17)

"Lani! Come on over and meet the new neighbor!" Summer called out to Kaylani.

Kaylani groaned in annoyance as her eyes narrowed into a glare and she mouthed a 'What the hell?' to Summer.

'He's hottttt!' Summer mouthed back and Kaylani shook her head in disbelief.

'So?' Kaylani mouthed again, running a hand through her hair in frustration as she pulled the hood of her sweater up over her head and headed towards the next door mansion.

The lawn separation both mansions was not so large and soon Kaylani arrived beside Summer, flashing her a hateful glare before she turned to face the new neighbor.

Kaylani blinked once in shock and then again unable to believe there was actually such a good looking male in existence.

With eyes a deep shade of red and a firm facial structure as well as a broad, muscular built, he was the perfect definition of a Greek god, exuding an aura of pure maleness that left Kaylani mystified for a moment.

Kaylani felt Summer poke her from behind and Kaylani quickly pulled herself back to reality, flashing an awkward smile.

"Uhmm hi there... I'm Kaylani, your actual neighbor..." Kaylani murmured,

Once again, Kaylani found her gaze lifting up to meet those mystifying red orbs and her brows furrowed as they struck her with a sense of familiarity.

"You... have we met before?" Kaylani asked, watching as the dashing young man diverted his gaze from hers.

Kaylani was certain she had seen those eyes somewhere before and as her mind flashed to the events from the previous night,

The image of the creature with fangs dripping with blood and gleaming red orbs which she had previously tried to force out of her mind came right back and Kaylani's heart dropped as she recalled exactly where she had seen this face before.

Kaylani took an unsteady step backwards on instinct.

"Fuck! It's you!" Kaylani exclaimed, as the horror that had previously left her mind came surging right back.

For a moment, Kaylani stood frozen, just staring at the creature now in the form of a man with horror.

The image of him, fangs sunk into the tender neck of a helpless man struggling for life while he drained him of his blood, vivid within her mind.

"Ooooh...you two know each other already? And here I was... making introductions." Summer's voice interrupted in a sly tone, her words pulling Kaylani back to reality.

"Sums, we're leaving!" Kaylani hissed urgently, grabbing Summer's wrist to pull her along.

Kaylani was intent on pulling Summer back to the safety of her mansion before this creature in the disguise of a man found their blood inviting and decided to monster up.

"Hey! We only just got here, we haven't even welcomed him to the neighborhood properly!" Summer exclaimed in reluctance.

"Give him the damn cookie and let's go!" Kaylani hissed in panic, lifting a wary gaze up to the red eyed man who merely stood there, staring straight at her.

"Okay, okay." Summer gave in as she placed the cookie box down on the porch and let Kaylani pull her away.

"Lani made a half of them and the other half is from me to you! Welcome to the neighborhood handsome!" Summer called back to the red eyed man as she struggled to keep up with Kaylani's speed.

Kaylani stormed straight past her yard, pushing open her door and pulling Summer along with her,

She slammed the door shut behind them and leaned her back against it, her mind racing a mile a minute as she tried to maintain a blank expression.

Meanwhile, Summer stood with her arms crossed, studying Kaylani closely.

"Well... that wasn't nice." Summer pointed out as Kaylani pushed off the door.

"When am I ever nice?" Kaylani murmured as she walked past Summer and headed into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water.

Kaylani popped the cap oped and gulped down the chilling liquid, taking a deep breath in as she placed the bottle down.

"Really? So you're just going to go over this without telling me what that whole reaction was all about? You had us running like you had just seen the devil." Summer replied in an unimpressed tone.

"Who knows? Maybe I did. Stay away from him Sums, please." Kaylani warned as she turned around and headed out, heading up to her room.

As Kaylani stepped into the safety of her room, she leaned against the door, sliding down.

'What is this madness?' Kaylani thought,

She could not believed she had actually just met the very same creature from that night, living right next door to her.

It was no wonder Kaylani had always felt like she was being watched, it was no wonder she had caught a glimpse of red eyes watching her from up in the mansion.

It was no wonder she had chanced upon such a horrifying sight in the alleyway so close to her home.

All along, it had never been a figment of her imagination or her mind playing tricks on her,

There was indeed a vampire in Evercrest City, and he was living right next door to her!
