"Aunt Linda? Why is it that I don't know who my mother looks like? Why haven't I seen her before?" Elysia asked as they walked back to her tower.
"Well, Elysia. Your mother is a very busy woman. She's busy running the school and other things?" Linda said unconvincingly.
"Oh. But she's not busy to put up barriers to prevent me from the outside world, right?" Elysia asked with a slight frown. "You should look at the person you want to lie to before you do."
"Come on Elysia you can't possibly be kidding me." Linda frowned as Elysia walked past the barrier and stepped into her tower.
"Do I look like a kid?" Elysia raised her brows behind her veil and even though Linda couldn't see it she knew what she was doing.
"You're not a kid at seven?" Linda asked, and Elysia scoffed.
"Don't think you can try to divert the topic this time around." Elysia frowned.
"Well, Elysia. Your mother is a woman who doesn't like stepping out of her territory either. Which is part of why you stay in your tower alone. Your mother is a really reserved woman, that's why you don't ever see her." Linda explained and Elysia scoffed.
"So that stops her from looking after her daughter even if it's once in a month, but I've never seen her since….since I haven't even set eyes on her for seven years of my life." Elysia fell on her bed looking up at the high ceiling which was decorated with crystals to make a mosaic of a little girl looking at the sea and setting sun. "If anyone asks me who my mother is, I would rather say you than say I have a real mother."
"Wow. You just made my heart warm up." Linda smiled, seeing the little girl say something sincere since she started talking.
Elysia sighed and turned her back and hugged her pillow. Linda watched the little girl fall into deep thoughts. She moved closer to the bed and placed her hand on Elysia's shoulder.
"Look, Elysia, it is not that. Your mother was cursed with an eternal life, and this made her distance herself from everyone. She has been living with this curse for more than two thousand years." Elysia sat up immediately with her mouth opened due to shock.
"She is more than two thousand years old?"
"Yes and so is this school because she created it when she was eighteen years old planning to pass it down to her child but because of her curse she didn't plan on that again."
"Why was she cursed?" Elysia asked.
"Only your mother can answer that, but it's not that your mother doesn't love you or care about you, but she doesn't know how to relate with people because she's tired of adjusting to the world nowadays." Linda said convincingly, but the little witch wasn't convinced. She just decided to keep quiet and not ask any other question.
"It still doesn't explain anything I asked you." Elysia laid back and sighed. "No one ever tells me anything. No one has ever told me why I was born with this veil either."
"Elysia. It's nearing sundown. I'll bring your dinner." Linda stood up and walked out of the room.
"And there she goes again." Elysia frowned and cuddled with her pillow until she started dozing.
It has been over two days since she slept, so she quickly fell into deep slumber before anyone could know it. Linda just smiled as she entered again and closed her window before walking out of the tower.
"Who are you." Elysia looked at the young boy who was a bit older than her who stood before her, giving her a bunch of flowers.
"Elysia…. what a beautiful name you have." He said instead of replying her question. "Can I see your face?"
"No, you can't because I don't know you." Elysia frowned, holding her veil in place on her head.
"My name is....."
Thud.
Elysia woke up with her back hitting the ground. A soft yelp left her lips as she sat up well, looking around the room to see if it was a dream, or it wasn't.
"Ouch. It really hurts." She mumbled, walking to the closed window. She stood on her toes as she drew the curtains to one side. The view of the sky splashed with warm colours due to the nearly approaching sun made her sigh.
"What lies beyond that wood? It looks promising." Elysia rested her chin on her hand looking at the bright horizon.
"Good morning, Elysia." Linda walked in with a basket of her dress with her. "Did you have a great night?"
"Mmm." Elysia just hummed, turning her full attention to the sun peeking out to check what the world looks like early that morning before revealing its true beauty.
"I see you went to bed early yesterday, so I brought you something to eat before breakfast is ready." Linda continued as she used her magic to arrange and fold Elysia's clothes into the wardrobe.
"Thank you." Was all Elysia mumbled, still looking outside at the sun.
Linda placed a plate of bread and jam next to her on the window. "What's eating Elysia up?"
"I'm not food. I'm not even eatable if I were one." Elysia mumbled and Linda burst into laughter.
"I see no matter what you never loose the cold act." Linda pat her veil and Elysia hummed, still looking outside picking the bread to eat. She chewed it slowly, still looking outside. "Should I prepare your bath?" She asked.
"Yes." Elysia replied.
After her bath, Elysia sat down with her eyes still blocked by the barrier and Linda brushing her hair.
"Aunt Linda?" She called and Linda hummed. "What's the colour of my hair?"
"I don't know." Linda replied and Elysia nodded, keeping quiet. "Are you sick?"
"No? Why?" Elysia asked.
"You are only quiet when sick or about to fall sick. Or is it a dream or nightmare?" Linda put the veil back on and Elysia could see again, and Linda turned to face her.
"I saw this boy in my dream. He knew my name and wanted to see my face." Elysia replied slowly, and Linda frowned.
"Did you see him? What he looked like?" Linda asked.
"No, I didn't see him." Elysia replied.
"Don't think so much about it. You have numerous spells to master, okay?" Linda pecked her veiled cheeks and lead her back to her room.
Elysia sat on her bed with a book on her lap. She was lost in thought. She couldn't help but think about the mysterious boy. She didn't see him, but she was really sure he was a boy.
"What's it boy?" She asked Twilight, who was busy trying to get her attention. Twilight gestured outside, and she walked to the window and looked outside.
The sky war tar black and the clouds were moving lazily. The first drop of rain took forever before it reached the ground. Elysia smiled as she saw it raining outside. "Thanks Twilight." She sat on the window with her feet outside.
She made sure her feet weren't reaching the barrier, so it wouldn't zap her. She looked at the mountains far away and the woods nearby which were being blessed by the heavy rain. The sweet ocean breeze mixed with rain filled her nose, cooling her nerves. She found lots of comfort when it was raining than any other time.
"So Twilight, you're not going out today?" She asked the owl, who laid on her lap with a small blanket covering him. He moved his head slowly, signifying he wasn't going out. "And why is that?"
Twilight didn't reply to her. He just enjoyed her laps quietly, and she giggled, looking back at the pouring rain. Only if she had the power to control the rain, she would make it rain all year long.
"It's so nice to watch the rain. It would even be really nice to be in it." Elysia sighed.
Since she was born, she just watched the rain. She has never been in it or felt it. Every time she goes out of the tower, she was very unlucky not to meet any rain.
After a few minutes that she was sure Twilight was asleep, she took him gently and placed him on a little bed she had made for him next to hers. Although he doesn't really use it, but she still left it there.
She fell on her bed, closing her eyes. Maybe if she had a little nap when it's raining her mind would be free
