Chapter Ten: Unbeknownst To Her

Eveline's POV

After approximately two minutes of soaking my body in warm water, I took the bar of soap resting beside the bathtub and began to scrub myself clean. The warm water in the bathtub washed away any residue or evidence of bubbles off my body. Around eight minutes after doing the same thing to each part of my body, I stood up and watched as the warm water from my hair had compressed hair and had flown down my body to get rid of any remaining soap.

I stepped out of the bathtub and wrapped my body and head with a towel. Facing the mirror situated above the sink, I rinsed my toothbrush and cup (I assume Axel had his people bring them here before I woke up) with water to clean it. I squeezed a tiny bit of toothpaste onto the toothbrush and then brushed my teeth.

After that, I stepped out of the bathroom and quickly changed. I could hear the sound of Axel's impatient heels clicking against the marble flooring as I slipped the white blouse on. The buttons were the most annoying part and to make it worse, there were six of them on the blouse alone. Terrific. I'm going to be wasting more time fumbling with these stupid buttons.

"You're taking a very long time Ms. Lennox. Do you need help with changing?" I could sense that Axel was not kidding.

I sighed in defeat, hinting to him that I needed help.

The second I unlocked the door to the master bedroom, Axel walked in, not giving two damns about almost knocking me over by not giving me time to move out of the way.

"You need help with these?" He pointed at my opened blouse which showed visible proof that I had problems pushing each button through the indicated hole on the other side of the blouse.

Axel sighed as if surprised that I was incapable of doing such a simple thing by myself. He said nothing more and only got on his knees and swiftly helped me button my blouse.

"Done." He declared and then walked out of the room again. Meanwhile, I, on the other hand, was still frozen. This man just walked in, saw me half-naked, chose to just help me with my buttons, and then leave as if he did not see anything he was not supposed to see.

Was it because I was not his type? Or was it because he had already seen countless women naked. I mean I would not be surprised if that's the case, Axel had a gorgeous body that many young females desire.

I shrugged it off and quickly got changed. Axel was already downstairs and he just watched nonchalantly as I instantly finished my breakfast, practically inhaling the food in before beaming at him, seemingly ready to leave.

"Please don't eat like that when we meet my mother," Axel said in disgust.

I blinked. Since when was he being just a jerk? Just yesterday he had been treating me well, not well but just as well, and now today he is looking at me with disgust? How is it even possible for a being to change their attitude completely overnight? Whatever, I should not dwell upon it any further.

"I know I know. I need to look like I'm worth your time." I replied, showing obvious signs that I was annoyed by emphasizing the word 'worth'. This man does not even accept my peculiar eating habits, how would he even accept me as a person. Dumb of me to even think about it.

"Since I haven't met your mother yet perhaps you should just find someone else who's willing to be your substitute fiance for the rest of your life and does not have weird eating habits like mine." I know, I should not have said that but hey, we've all had times when we were pissed off right?

"Other women aren't worth my time. You're the only one suitable for this." Does he not realize just how cold he sounds towards other females right now? And he thinks that this will make me feel better? I should've known, this is the typical behavior for Mr. Coldhearted-Towards-Females.

"Okay." I fumed silently. I stride outside and into his expensive-looking car without saying another word.

I sat down beside the driver's seat and had both my arms and my legs crossed. Although my face was facing forward, my eyes trailed the ornaments and objects before me. Axel only placed a digital clock in the space below the windshield. Apart from that one item, his car was sort of empty yet clean. Simplicity was the ideal word to describe his car.

Axel walked quickly behind me and slipped into the driver's seat. He turned on the engine and the car roared into life, releasing gas into the air. Axel's right hand rested on the steering wheel while his left hand was in charge of the lever. His eyes kept on the road at all times and not once had it traced to me.

I was still tired although I slept around the same time as Axel yet woke up way later than him so I decided to just take a quick nap in Axel's car before we reach the company. I mean, it's going to take a while anyway right? Might as well make good use of the time and have a good day's rest.

I lean to my left and felt my shoulder and head resting against the window. With my head in contact with the window, I could feel the vibration emitting from the vehicle when it moves. Vibrations are usually considered a type of distraction however the sound wave that entered my brain had acted as a kind of lullaby, pestering me to go to sleep sooner than I thought, which was a good thing.

My eyelids slowly fell, leaving me unable to see my surroundings but instead was overflowing with relaxation. Who knew that sleeping in a car could be so de-stressing? The tranquility that filled the vehicle, the blurred noises outside the car, and a tired mind all lead to a long long slumber...

Axel's POV

Eveline, my fiance, was mad at me this morning. The reason for that? I frankly have absolutely no idea.

For the first time in the ten minutes that were spent driving, I finally glanced over at Eveline just to ensure my safety and well-being since she was very quiet.

To my surprise, she was not sulking anymore and was instead sleeping oh-so-soundly in my vehicle. With her currently unconscious, I had the freedom to freely stare at her face for as long as I liked until she woke up again. Thank god that the traffic light just turned red.

Early in the morning, the gentle sunlight sneaked into my car through the transparent window and shone onto Eveline's face. The light helped showcase the beautiful features that Eveline possessed. Her symmetrical face, her long eyelashes, and natural slightly flushed cheeks were only a few beautiful features out of many that I managed to capture with my two eyes. The way she looked so relaxed yet maintained such a gorgeous posture and appearance made me amused. This woman was not only a beauty but also an amazing person at heart.

For the first time, I gently lifted my left off the lever and slowly caressed her face. A small helpless smile crept onto my face.

"Find a substitute girlfriend you said? I don't think I can bring myself to do so." The smile grew bigger, "You're the only woman who can sway my heart as such. And what makes you think I'm going to give you up so easily?"
