The Admiral’s Daughter and the Pirate King

"Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby present, Lord Admiral Valter Braxton and his daughter, Lady Vereena Ellaine Braxton of House MacGhille. The new queen consort of Ebondale."

I fought hard not to faint hearing the last part while holding my head high. Fortunately, the veil was doing its job to conceal my face from the crowd and my gaze fixated solely on the middle of the altar in the pavilion. The mark is hidden in plain sight for everyone to see.

It was a decorative gold, an intricate vine-like painting swirling around the floor, and in the middle were red petals of roses formed into an interconnected X mark to the four pillars of the pavilion. It could be plainly overlooked nothing but an engraved design on the granite flooring.

Unfortunately, where the king and the queen regent were standing along with Prince Tarquin…or should I say, the newly crowned King of Ebondale.
