Chapter 42: What If

“Queen Emilia?” Gunnar asked, knocking on the stone wall that marked the entrance of the underground cave she had been staying in.

The cavern that the resistance lived in was a network of caves under the mountains. Emilia had never known the caves were there, and most of them had been outfitted as living quarters.

She’d been assigned her own room since allying with them and Tommy was right next door.

“It is your rank is it not?” Emilia asked, arching a golden eyebrow.

“It is, in your husband’s army. I do not wish for you to refer to me as a rank he bestowed on me. When you retake the throne, I will accept whatever rank you feel I deserve, until then, just Gunnar is fine,” the Viking said.

“Very well,” Emilia said. She crossed her arms and nodded to a chair in the corner.
