Chapter 46: Goodbye, for Now

“The sun is setting,” Tommy said, coming up behind Emilia

She stood in her old bedroom and stared at the heavy curtain over the window. With her new eyes, she could see the light energy, and she could almost imagine what the sunset looked like… almost.

“The members of the resistance will be where they need to be,” she replied.

“Not long now. I don’t want to drain you too soon,” she said emotionlessly.

“Right. And if the timing isn’t right…?” Tommy asked.

“You’d just be dead,” Emilia said, shrugging his chin off her shoulder.

“That’s the part I’m not liking,” he said.

“Do I need to go over the process again?” Emilia teased, or tried to tease. Her voice fell flat again.
