23. Adeline and The Three Monsters

****

When Adeline landed on the ground, the effect of the punches that suddenly kissed her face was heavy, it was so that it threw her until her back hit a tree and the pain was the worst.

Even when she groaned out the pain, it had not helped any better. But that had not been a major concern. She was used to enduring pain.

She slowly advanced to her feet and shot her gaze towards the direction she received the punch and what she saw had been nothing but a surprise to her.

She saw another monster. It had her face, her complexion and her dress. Even though there was a slight difference. It was more obvious for Adeline to conclude the monster was a better version of herself.

"What the hell?" She whispered to herself, amazed to see the monster who had the same face as her.

Surely, the monster had been a radiance of beauty. Yet, she had not expressed herself beautifully as at this moment she crafted her face in a silly manner that mocked Adeline.

She will also not say any words. She only walked slowly and gently toward Adeline.

This does not mean Adeline also waited for the monster to get close to her. She was also taking more steps backwards in the same pacing steps the monster had been walking to her.

The witch's laugh did not also fail to compliment this moment. And it did not compliment this moment with only her manic laughter. She was calling Adeline's name in a close whisper.

"What do you want?" Adeline screamed to the monster

"Who sent you?" She asked again in a louder voice.

The monster had not still said anything. All she did was spread her lips apart and expressed a baleful smile. She was still walking toward Adeline when the other monster showed up from another direction.

It was the bird with the horse's head. This made Adeline stop walking backwards because she was quick to realise that the bird had been closer to her and that the bird was already opening its mouth to rain fire on her.

The bird was already charging her feet like the bull and was making loud noises before it began to run faster against Adeline.

When Adeline almost escaped again by her instantaneous speed, she was blocked by the monster who looked exactly like her.

It did not also mean Adeline only stood still as the monster came her way, she decided to pave her way by knocking out the monster before her.

At that moment Adeline swung her fist towards the monster's face, the monster already saw it coming and she dogged it easily as if Adeline had not used her superspeed to throw the punch.

When the monster was in the clear, Adeline only received a hit on her face again. She never saw it coming. This hit was indeed so fast that she didn't even catch it in a glimpse except when it landed on her face.

Another one was thrown into her stomach and her face again and stomach again and face again.

These punches were heavy punches that caused Adeline to start bleeding all over her face coupled with the fact that her nose was bleeding. Her lips became broken, and a stream of blood flowed down her entire face.

Even this did not mean everything had stopped as the bird at this time carried Adeline with her teeth and threw her away again.

The witch expressed her laughter.

"You know the words to say, Adeline." She expressed again in a burst of laughter.

"Say it ... Adeline" She whispered slowly again.

But even Adeline could not fathom what the witch meant by her to say the word, She was quick to understand that there was a possibility to put an end to this havoc that would almost kill her.

What was she supposed to say? That was a question she could not seem to get an answer to.

[footsteps thudding more forward]

Adeline could be seen breathing too fast and slowly rising to her feet. This did not mean she had not tried her best to get away from this situation again but of course, she was quickly blocked by the monster who looked exactly like her.

"What are you?" Adeline groaned in pain softly.

"I shall be delighted to suck your blood to nourish my skin," she said in contempt

But she had only given Adeline her smirk and gave her another punch in the face.

Adeline could not see her punch. It was a fact that no matter how fast Adeline was, she was faster than Adeline. This was not all.

When Adeline took the blow on her face, she could not withstand it nor maintain her position. The effect of the punch was heavy and this caused her to fall backwards and forcefully skim on the ground until her back could hit a tree before she was able to stop.

She groaned more loudly. and at this time, even when the monster suspended herself in the air, Adeline was not swept by any surprises.

What she had seen the monster do quickly summoned her thoughts that if she wants to live, she must then jump on her feet and use her speed to get away from that position.

Adeline had done just that because the monster's eyes already turned to bright gold which was indeed a fire in between her eyes lids.

And the monster opened her mouth almost immediately in which her lunge also shone brightly as she emitted fire through her mouth to burn Adeline.

Even though Adeline was lucky to have quickly detected this and sprinted from that position, she only met with the bird with the horse's head which almost kicked her back into the position and the fire.

But the bird was not as fast, Adeline could see its movement and she was able to dodge that.

This got the bird angrier and at this moment, both the one which looked like Adeline and the bird with the horse head confronted Adeline and disgorged fire.

Even when she ran, she was also followed as quickly as possible. This did not mean the fire had gotten her. She almost hijacked the opportunity to finally escape this whole situation and as she was headed towards the direction that would give freedom to her, she was pounded by the reptile which caused her to fall back into that danger zone.

Adeline could not see the reptile nor could she see or hear its footsteps. She could not even guess what hit her. But at the same time, she did not have the time to think about it. Those two were still casting fire and she must not be burnt by it lest she becomes burnt to ashes and that would be the end of her.

Immediately, she decided to use her instantaneous speed again even in another direction but what happened earlier happened again and she was hit back into the danger zone.

Since Adeline vividly opened her eyes to see what had been hitting her, the reptile revealed itself in a glimpse and vanished again as if its presence was not there.

"How many more of you are there?" She grumbled even in pain.

Her nose still bleeds and now her ears. And the blood that streamed down from her head was causing her to lose a lot of blood.

This also meant that Adeline was becoming weaker seconds by second. The more she loses blood, the weaker she becomes.

This did not mean she did not again ascend to her feet at a fast speed. And at this moment, the bird monster and her doppelganger monster had stopped belching that fire but there was still an angry wide fire burning on the ground.

Together, the monsters have a faster speed and begin to hit Adeline.

With this strength, there was a rapid jab on her stomach, a punch to her face, and an elbow to her face by the three monsters at once which caused her to fall to the ground.

The reptile also at this moment used its tail to stab Adeline in the stomach and held her still.

Her blood streamed like the waters from the cliff and when the reptile had finally put her down from its hook, she became desiccated like a living mummy. But that had not been all. The three monsters now opened their mouths to breathe out the fire that would burn her and the reptile, its spit that would also burn her.
