CHAPTER FIVE

"I KNOW I asked you to watch over her but can you do it a little less obvious? I want her to be safe while she's in Paramount, but I also want her to enjoy her life while she can," Farrah said while watching the students walk around the campus through the window.

Even before Leonora called Xent, he was already aware that the Queen is in her office. Well, he guesses all the vampires in the University are aware of it, especially now that she's making her presence be felt which she doesn't usually do.

Whenever Farrah visits the University, she always hides her presence from other vampires. She doesn't want them to feel intimidated. But at that moment, she's doing it on purpose.

"Do you expect her to feel your presence?"

"Not really. I'm just making everyone know that I'm serious about my warning."

Even before the humans were able to enter the vicinity, the vampires have been warned by the Vampire Queen. Whoever loses control and hurts a human will receive extreme punishment. And she's reminding everyone about it through her presence. He's not sure, though, if she's doing it for everyone's welfare or one specific person.

"You must be curious who she is," Farrah suddenly said in between their silence.

He didn't say a word.

"You must be thinking that this mission is nothing, but this is so far the most important mission that I've ever given you. The moment her ability starts awakening, a lot of enemies would try to get her and try to kill her. That's why I asked you, my most trusted man to protect her," Farrah looks at him. "I hope you won't disappoint me, Xent."

"I promise, my Queen. I'll never disappoint you."

Farrah smiled at him. "Thank you for staying loyal to me, Xent. Thank you for staying by my side even if I can't reciprocate your feelings for me. I'm just curious. Do you still love me?"

"You know that my feelings will never change till the day I die, my Queen."

He's been in love with Farrah since they were young. He loves her so much to the point that he joined her army even if their families are both pureblood and of the same rank.

His father and his clan even disowned him since then. A lot of vampires have ridiculed him for coming up with such a decision.

And even if Farrah rejected his feelings, he still chose to stay by her side and promised to be loyal until his last breath.

Farrah may have not said clearly who Czelvie is, but she must be very important to her. Which makes Czelvie's safety important for him as well.

SHE still has a day before the classes start. That means she still has time to walk around and see how beautiful Paramount is. At least she could relax before her mission starts.

Her goal is still to have good grades. Second to that is finding whoever sent her to Paramount. And she has a feeling that she could only find it out from these vampires surrounding her.

She must admit. They intimidate her and scare her. But then, she thinks the only way to get the information she wants is by befriending them.

When she got out of her room, Khai was on the sofa in the living area. She suppress her smile seeing how his book was upside down.

"Are you going out?" he asked.

There's no one in there but her so she guesses he's talking with her. "Yeah. I just want to look around a bit."

He placed the book on the table. "It's boring to walk around by yourself. I'm coming with you." Even before she replied, he already left the room.

She let out a sigh. It seems like she'll be starting her plan earlier than expected. When she walked out of the room, she saw Khai facing her, and then their eyes met. It's was awkward but she must act as friendly as possible.

She painted a smile on her face. "Let's go?"

She saw the surprise on Khai's face with what she said. She even held his hand and drag him with her. She suddenly had goosebumps feeling his cold hand.

She was honestly nervous that he would pull his hand and swear at her. But to her surprise, he just followed her.

"Have you familiarized with Paramount's map?"

"I didn't look at it," he calmly replied. "But I've been here a couple of times before."

She stopped and face him, still, with a smile on her face. "Really? That's great! Then I guess you can tour me around," she tried to sound excited as possible. "By the way, I think we haven't introduced ourselves formally to each other yet," she extends her arm to Khai. "I'm Czelvie Grace Asombrado, I'm 16 and a freshman. And you are?"

"Khai. Khai Kim. I guess I'm a freshman, too."

He didn't mention his age but at least he responded. She guesses he's not peevish like how she expected him to be. She's actually curious and wanted to know how vampires were born. They all look like foreigners but Khai is her only vampire roommate who looks Asian.

She'll just ask about it some other time. When they're close enough to chat about anything. And with how things are going between her and Khai, she thinks that day could possibly come.

"I thought you were afraid of us."

If she'd say she's not, he wouldn't believe it anyway.

"I was just shocked. Who wouldn't be scared when you have vampires as your roommates? I bet you're also surprised that I was your roommate, right?"

Khai didn't respond.

"But I think it's not that bad. You seemed nice. I actually feel safe being around you. It's like no one would harm me because I'm friends with a vampire."

It's actually weird because she feels unsafe and safe being with Khai and his clique at the same time.

"WHAT is wrong with this woman? Why she's suddenly being so friendly? Or maybe she's just like that?" Khai said to himself.

Yesterday, Czelvie was busy avoiding them. She seems so scared that she only leaves her room to eat. But that morning, she changed completely. And he finds it troublesome. He used to be the friendliest kid in their school. But since he became a vampire, he no longer knows how to be a human.

If only they weren't in direct order with the Vampire Queen to protect Czelvie, he would have grabbed her neck already for touching him, and for being too friendly. That's disrespectful.

But honestly, he didn't find her actions that annoying. In fact, her smile made him feel something weird. For years he thought his heart is no longer beating. But it seems like her smile made his heart beat again.
