VIP WARD FOR VIP PATIENT

The couple noticed how Lycia looked at them strangely, and the woman immediately explained, "I'm Davel's mother, doctor! And my husband is Davel's dad! Do you suspect we're lying now because our son doesn't remember us?"

Lycia had expected that the couple would be able to understand the meaning behind her gaze. The couple dressed glamorously even if it was late at night, and they surely didn't come from poor families who couldn't afford higher education.

The couple was experienced people, and they looked like people in dramas who worked as CEOs or something in a big company. Those kind of people must have been able to read her strange gaze towards them earlier.

"I apologize for my impolite attitude," Lycia sincerely uttered an apology to the couple as she felt guilty for her previous bad thoughts. "I don't mean to suspect you, but it's strange that the patient can remember himself and yet fail to remember you as his parents."

Lycia spoke a rational reason, and the couple finally stopped looking at her as if they wanted to slice her alive anymore.

"However, I still have to question the patient more so I can draw conclusions. It's part of my job, so please excuse me to continue questioning the patient," the female doctor spoke again as she got no response to her apology.

She was a doctor, and getting cold treatment from her patient's families was nothing new to her. She had even experienced a moment when a parent slapped her on the cheek when she failed to save his son from the claws of the grim reaper.

She was not God, and human death was not in her control. She was just a doctor, and she could only try to save patients using her abilities and knowledge. Unfortunately, some people failed to understand it and chose to blame her when they lost their family members.

Lycia was a soft-hearted person, and when she received such a response from people, she said nothing and remained silent as she listened to their nagging. She thought that those people would feel better after venting their anger, and that was why she was willing to become a trash can where people could vent their anger.

Tonight she didn't hear the scolding, but the criticism from the patient's parents was the same for her. She only saw criticism as a way for parents to vent their worries, and that was why she did not take it to heart.

Focusing her attention on her patient again, Lycia began to question the patient, "May I know your age, sir?"

It was a simple question, and even if some people might find it rude when others asked about their age, it was normal for a doctor to ask their patient's age in this situation.

Lycia hoped that the man would cooperate with her and give her an answer soon, but she had to swallow a bitter pill as the patient just stared at her blankly while furrowing his brows.

The patient looked confused, and such a reaction was unexpected because Lycia expected the patient would remember the details about himself. Now that the patient couldn't even remember his age, Lycia began to change her theory.

"It's okay if you can't answer my question, sir. But, could you tell me about your job or maybe your friends?" Lycia chose to ask another question because the patient was starting to show an uncomfortable expression on his face, but to her dismay, she also didn't get a response from the man even if she only asked him a general question about his work and friends.

"I think our son did lose his memory even if he remembers himself, doctor."

The black-haired doctor could hear another voice, and without turning her head, she knew that it was the patient's mother who had just voiced her opinion.

Lycia did hope the patient would, at least, remember his own identity, but when she saw the patient looking confused instead of answering her easy questions, she knew she had made the wrong hypothesis.

Turning her head to the couple, she then asked, "Did the patient hit his head when he fell unconscious?"

If the patient had completely lost his memory, then his head might hit something while he was falling unconscious. That was Lycia's theory, but she was still waiting for the parents to confirm her suspicions.

"We're not sure about that, doctor," the patient's father answered the question. "When we entered Davel's room, he was already lying unconscious on the floor. We don't know what happened to him before he was in that state."

Hearing the middle-aged man's answer, Lycia nodded her head before replying, "In that case, the patient needs to stay in the hospital for further observation, sir. I will consult a senior doctor about the patient's condition, and perhaps they will offer a CT scan option to know what happened to the patient's head. But maybe that can only be done tomorrow because it's already so late at night."

Lycia finally made a decision regarding the patient's condition. She was just a doctor in the emergency room, and the patient would need another doctor for further observation.

"We understand, doctor," replied the father again. "And please arrange a VIP ward for my son to rest."

Lycia had made an accurate guess that the patient didn't come from an ordinary family. The old man asked for the VIP ward without hesitation, and she knew that money was not a problem for the family.

"I will help to talk to the staff so that they can prepare a VIP ward for the patient, sir. Please excuse me," smiled at the old man, Lycia was about to leave if the patient did not suddenly speak again.

"What's your name, doctor?"

The question came out of nowhere, and Lycia was slightly taken aback when the patient who had been silent suddenly asked her name.

However, Lycia was a friendly and kind doctor, so she immediately replied, "I'm Lycia Henderson, sir."
