Chapter 10 - An upset Rebecca

Tuesday 7:40am

Cloud Café

Daejanel knocked on Emma's door a few times before she opened it.

"Glad to see you're finally up." smirked Samantha as Emma opened her bedroom door to let the girls in. "Well don't keep us waiting, tell us what happened yesterday.", and just like that Emma gave the details of yesterday's event.

"Nothing much happened. I don't know why you girls are so interested, we just went shopping, saw the sunset and caught a movie. We also did a bit of stargazing in the park" Emma blushed.

"Sounds like a date to me, if I've ever heard one. "Mackenzie teased with Sam nodding behind her. "It wasn't a date." Emma squealed out red face, in a poor attempt to defend herself. "Sure, sure."

Before the girls could tease her even more she changed the topic. "Oh, before I forget, I picked up some stuff for you guys, I'm not sure if you'll like it though." she said, a bit nervous. Emily always said she had a poor taste in fashion.

"Well let's see it!" The girls then went through the bag of stuff Emma got them, and they were all amazed. Surprisingly she guessed the sizes close enough for them to wear. "Well don't you have an excellent eye?"

"Thank you."

The girls continued to gossip for a few minutes till Sophia's alarm went off. "Oh my, let's go and get ready, our shift starts, in a bit." The girls then went to their respective rooms to get dressed, well those who had the morning shift that is.

A few hours had passed since morning shift started and Emma noticed that Rebecca was giving her a , not so friendly stare. Earlier Emma had tried to talk to her but Rebecca had just ignored her.

"I-is there a problem?" she asked timidly, Emma did not like confrontation, maybe that's why she never confronted her ex.

"..." there was still no response from her boss's ex-girlfriend.

Ever since Rebecca came to work this morning it was quite evident she was upset about what happened yesterday. "Don't be too upset Rebecca, you had your shot." mocked Daejanel. As much as Rebecca wanted to retort she held back. It's fine, she'd use all their mockery to her advantage one day then she'll see who'll be laughing.

"I know that, that's why I'm trying to fix things." she smiled as she wiped the spill on a now vacant table.

"And why exactly did you choose now to 'fix things' as you put it? After three months you finally realized August wasn't going to go running back to you?"

Rebecca stayed silent, that was exactly the reason, she thought if she gave August some space, he'd realized he overreacted and apologized. But he didn't, he never went back or called her to see how she was doing.

"Does it matter? All that matters is that I'm trying to make amends for my error." she replied after finding her voice. "Besides, what right do you have to speak to me that way? Maybe that attitude of yours is why your boyfriend cheated." she said now a bit angry.

Rebecca was never one to stoop low, but Daejanel had it coming, she wouldn't shut up and mind her own business. Rebecca regretted her words as soon as they left her mouth, that wasn't her, just the anger speaking. "Look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" Rebecca was cut off by Daejanel's fist hitting her in the face.

'Went did she get from behind the counter?' thought Rebecca holding her aching cheek bone. The few customers in the café looked at the spectacle taking place, some with interest and some with shock. One of the onlookers, who was a friend of August, shot him a message about what was happening.

Meanwhile, after hitting Rebecca in the face Dae went to swing again but was held back by Sebastian and belittled by Mackenzie who came downstairs to see what all of the commotion was about.

"Come on now Dae, you're better than this? Why did you dirty your hand by hitting her? You should've just reminded her who she was before she met August."

"A foster kid no-one wanted because of that god damned attitude of hers that was living on the side of the road begging for spare change. I mean, how does someone like that have the audacity to speak ill of someone, especially their attitude, when her whole life was as messy as the alleyway she lived in?"

"She, miss I dropped out of school, because 'I was depressed', and is only where she is now because of August and then didn't know how to cherish him and is now chasing after him. What, is your life in shambles again and you need August to pick up the pieces? Or do you need August so that you'll suddenly have boys fall from all over for you again? Is that it?" Mackenzie ranted.

By the end of her speech the café was silent and Rebecca was in tears. "Boo-hoo, cry me a river, let's go get you sanitized." she said, pulling Daejanel towards the dorms. If there was one thing Mackenzie didn't like, it was people who messed with her friends. She will go above and beyond to make sure that said person regrets it.

Around half an hour later August enters the café, surprised to see that this café was still in one piece and working as normal. Except, Daejanel wasn't working as the barista, Sam was.

Sebastian and Emma came up to August to give him a rundown of what happened. Neither side left out anything according to what his bystander friend had said but he was going to check the camera just to make sure.

"Thank you for informing me, by tomorrow I'll have a punishment for both employees, Dear customers, if you had witnessed the dispute earlier I would like to apologize, in return the next drink ordered will be on the house." August informed the café before making his way to his office.

'Maybe hiring Rebecca wasn't a good idea after all.'
