Chapter 13: Exam passed

"Next one, Langris Wranven, against Frisk Qimyar," Ms. Morgana said.

As Langris and Frisk 2 were walking to the arena, Morgana looked at Langris with a suspicious expression.

'This way, I'll be able to see how powerful his filial is,'

The two students did the same drill the previous students did and waited for the countdown.

< Defeat your opponent >

< Reward >

< 40 exp >

<1 stat point >

'So there are other ways to gain exp than daily quests I see,' Langris then smirked and when in a fighting stance, 'plus, I'll get another stat point, this fight will be a great way to see whether adding two stat points makes a big or slight difference, this way, I'll be able to know how I should be adding my stat points to different stats,'

3,2,1 Fight!!!

Langris was the first to move as he dashed toward Frisk. Already, he felt that there was a slight change in his acceleration because it was easier for him to start his dash.

When Frisk saw Langris closing in, he smiled, and suddenly, his whole hand started to be enveloped in blue sphere-shaped electricity,"

He rushed to Langris too, and once close enough, he swung at Langris with his electric arm.

To avoid the swing, Langris leaped over Frisk and landed behind him. He then attempted a kick straight in the back of Frisk's head, but before it could touch, Frisk bent down to avoid the attack, but with the same knee he used to attempt a kick, he swung it downwards in and slammed it on the ground. Unfortunately, Frisk merely managed to dodge the kick by moving a few centimeters backward, and he then leaped backward to create distance between him and Langris.

"From what I see, you are way more experienced than me in close combat, so the best solution for me is long-range combat, this way it will force you to use your filial!"

He directed his electric arm to Langris and an electric string came out of his hand and rushed toward Langris.

Langris rolled sideways to avoid the electric string, the attack was long and reached the other end of the arena.

At this point, one thing he realized was that his stamina was greater than in the first exam. He felt that he could win this fight without running out of stamina.

This proved that adding two stat points does make a difference in your stats.

"This is gonna be easy!" Langris shouted with a smile on his face.

Langris then used all of his strength to dash toward Frisk. The latter started panicking when he heard Langris say that and started to spam the electric string just like Rayzen's opponent.

However, showing great agility, he dodged every single attack and managed to close the gap between them.

"You think it's that easy!?" Frisk shouted as he tried to punch Langris with his electric hand.

The fists were a few centimeters away from Langris's face before he slightly tilted his head sideways, and took one step forward so Frisk could be within reach, and he punched Frisk right in the face.

Frisk fell to the ground, and his electric hand dissipated.

"Ah, that hurt damn it!" Frisk said holding his cheek.

"Time's up, Langris, passes the exam with 52 points, meaning..."

"I passed the exam," Langris whispered.

< Congratulations, you have completed the quest >

< Reward >

< 40 exp, 1 stat point >

As Langris was walking off the arena, Rayzen patted him on the back with a big smile.

"You passed the exam, that was unexpected!" Rayzen said.

"Yeah, it seems like I still have a chance for the academy!" Langris replied with a slight smile.

The only one who wasn't happy with Langris passing the exam was Ms. Morgana.

'He beat his opponent without even using his filial... This boy is becoming more and more mysterious. Does this mean he thinks he doesn't need his filial for an exam that might cost his future or is it just that he can't control it yet? No, a member of the Wranven family, if he has such a power, then his family has surely taught him a lot, he just thinks that he doesn't need it for an exam such as this... In fact, after seeing this, maybe he hasn't even shown the maximum of his physical aptitudes,"

After the exams, the students were allowed to leave the school and go home.

Langris was walking in the hall heading to the exit with Rayzen. They were both talking about how their exam went.

"Hey Langris, you never told me you had a Red tier filial," Rayzen said.

At that moment, Langris was put in a dilemma, was he supposed to tell Rayzen, or keep it a secret from him. In both cases, he had to tell something to Rayzen to remove all suspicions.

"It's a recent filial that I unlocked, and I haven't trained it a lot, this is why I'm not able to use it as I want,"

"Oh, so that explains why you didn't use your filial against Frisk!" Rayzen said hitting his fist on his palm, "but aren't filials supposed to be impossible to get after the age of 13?"

The age at which you use your filial depends on how talented you are, and what tier your filial is. For example, having a Gold tier filial makes it easier for the user to control it at a young age.

In Langris' case, he had passed the age of 13 and just told Rayzen that he had just unlocked his filial. To add more to Rayzen's suspicions, unlocking a red tier filial after the age of 13 would be impossible.

"Well..." Langris realizing that he had just increased his suspicions started to find a good reason in vain.

However, a voice calling out for him saved him just in time, it was Rolem.

"Langris, the carriage is already here, let's go!"

Once he heard that, Langris ran to the carriage and left Rayzen alone.

"I've got to go, we'll see each other later!" He waved at Rayzen before entering the carriage.

Once inside, he let out a big sigh of relief.

'I don't think it's the right moment to tell him, I've not had this system for long...'

Inside the carriage was Rolem, and grandfather Elmon who had come in person to check their results as soon as possible.

"Good afternoon children, how was your exam?" Elmon said going straight to the point.

"I passed with 200 points, if not for the combat training I would've got a perfect score!" Rolem exclaimed in total pride.

Without any surprise, Elmon smiled and patted Rolem on the head to show his satisfaction.

"That's what I like to hear Rolem, become strong and continue to bring pride to the family's name,"

Elmon then turned his head to Langris with a less confident expression.

"Langris, it's ok if you haven't passed, this still doesn't mean that your future is ruined, you will have a great career as a-"

"Actually grandfather, I've passed the exam," Langris replied without letting grandfather finish.

After saying that, Elmon and Rolem took a few seconds before reacting to what they had just heard.

"With how many points did you pass!?" Rolem exclaimed as he stood from his seat, and hit his head on the hood of the carriage.

"I passed with 151 points, but it's not as great as your score Rolem!" Langris exclaimed patting Rolem on the shoulder.

"B-But you don't have any filial, so how did you pass the exam?" Elmon said lowering his eyes and frowning his eyebrows confused about the situation.

Langris stayed quiet and just smiled and scratched the back of his head. He wasn't comfortable in those situations, and he couldn't help but rise his suspicions about him even more.

Rolem and Elmon glared at him with puzzled eyes as they both wondered how he passed the exam. After all, he doesn't have great physical aptitudes, and he doesn't have any filial, so it would be impossible for him to pass without a miracle.

After a few seconds went by, Elmon regained his composure, and cleared his throat before saying,

"Congratulations Langris, you happened to pass the exam from what I hear, but I will still have to contact the school to check if you lying or not. For now, both of you seem to be on the right path to becoming Hallow Practitioners, and until the Academy's entrance exams, I expect you to work 10 times harder than usual now, have I made myself clear?"

"Yes Sir!" Both teenagers replied enthusiastically.

Langris in particular had a determined face, for he was now motivated and sure that with his system, he would make progress now.
