Chapter5 The party

The party!

Past 6pm,

Finn got home exhausted from a long day of curiosity, unanswered questions and less fun. He held the door knob contemplating for a little moment, the coincidental sounds of the honks from the car on the other side of the road startled him, he entered the apartment. He could see his mother sitting by the counter with her arms resting on the smooth surface, she was sniffling intermittently, he closed the door gently. He started his way towards her direction almost hastily. Usually, mother shouldn't be home at this time, he thought within. He sat opposite also placing his forearms on the surface entwined his fingers, he had a long face while she maintained her position looking downwards. He tried to talk but then he scoffed, he was lost for words. He assumed that she must have heard from Doctor Sheila Rivera before he arrived, that's a sure bet.

"Mom?" He called out softly and coldly. Even if he was skeptical, he had to brace up as fast as he could. "What's wrong, why are you home so early?" He asked. "Mom?" He called after waiting for a minute then he attempted to call as she chirped in instantly in a hoarse tone. She seemed annoyed already.

"...Don't you dare, Finn, don't you dare!" She began "Do you in any way realize that I've been helpless trying to make you understand how insanely important it is for you to seek help? Do you? No, you don't 'coz you would never understand that I'm helpless right now..." She said

"...Mom, what do you mean by that though? I understand that you're helpless and you're trying to help me..." Finn defended himself

"...Of course not, Finn!" She almost yelled. She held her forehead trying to call, she realized that she's yelled too much at Finn. "I'm trying to see that you get better but it seems like its not enough! Everything i do for you is bluntly not enough for you then tell me what is Finn, I would always try again!'' She stated as her eyes watered. He rose from where he had been sitting and went over to her and embraced her tightly.

''I know that I screwed up very badly at the session with Doctor Sheila but I promise that there was nothing she could do help me. I wanna,'' He took a deep breath and continued ''I wanna get better and I've got to find answers why all of these is happening!'' He stated calmly. She placed her palms over his adolescent hands, that was now turning into that of a man.

''I quit my job Finn,'' She stirred then he slowly retracted, he sat adjacent staring at her questionably.

''Why did you do that, Mom? Don't you like being a woman for the people anymore?'' there was a tinge of tease in his question. She beamed staring into his vibrant teenage eyes, she wondered if he would ever understand why she did what she did.

''I did it for you! It is for you Finn, I wanna take care of you like a mother should. This was not the life your father and I projected…'' She was still speaking as he interrupted hastily

''That cannot be a reason Mom, I can figure out myself…I can take care of myself better than you think!'' He countered defiantly

''I knew you would say that!'' she cringed a bit

''Yes I would, Mom you need this job not just for me.'' He said then he scoffed ''Do you even trust me at all?'' he asked coldly

''Finn you know I do, with my very life…''

''Go back to your job. It's going to get better you'll see!'' he urged also assuring her, he was certain that he was not going to get better any time soon but there was point scaring her away, he assumed that her job would be a source of abject distraction. She nodded lightly.

''I'm going to have to think about it…really soon!'' she snapped, he placed a kiss on her forehead swiftly.

''I'm just gonna take a shower…'' he said

''That's better 'cause you stink!'' she teased as he laughed, he started walking away

''I'm still going to be your son, stinky or not!'' he snapped. She felt better walking to the living room. She took the remote controller and turned on the TV, it was the least she could do. Dexter  was a loving romantic and protective over family and loved ones, when he was alive they'd see the movies at he cinemas or the house, go shopping, collect Finn from school, do the holidays or vacations and a lot more and now his eternal silence would forever be in her heart and that of her son's.

Finn flopped on his bed while a log staring into the ceiling, the scenery at the hospital flashed before him like movie. Just as his eyes were about to shut, his phone beeped. He tucked his hand into his trouser pocket and pulled the phone out, Jack was calling: he answered.

   ''Bro!''

''Yeah Bro. I got something for you…its juicy.'' Jack said, while Finn grew interested, he sat upright instantly.

''I'm curious as always!'' Finn snapped

''We got a party at Jenny's at 8pm, she sent me a text so…''

''Come on boy, just go ahead 'cause I'm freaking exhausted right now!'' Finn said as he flopped by into the bed once more

''No way, that is going to hurt so don't even go there!'' Jack stated, he was getting pissed off.

''Seriously Jack, what do you need me for?! I mean you like Jenny and that's a pass.'' Finn tried to coax

''Lindsey is gonna be there, how about that? Will you say no? still?'' jack jabbered. Finn paused with a tight smile the nodded his head lightly.

''I'm gonna think about it…'' Finn snapped feigning

''Don't text me!'' Jack teased because he knew that Finn would text him soon, once he is about to leave his apartment. He rushed into the shower with a boom box, h turned the volume really loud to be a distraction.

He was done taking a shower, it was a bit of surprise to him that for once in my weeks, he had a successful bath without the need to be petrified.

Some minutes after 7pm,

He headed to the closet and pulled out a defacto shirt and black jean trouser then wore a denim jacket over the shirt. He stared into the mirror brushing his scruffy hair, he was quite sure that he looked attractive enough for Lindsey. He sprayed some perfume and then he smiled at himself. He tucked some dollar bills into his wallet and tucked his cell into his trouser pocket and stomped out of his room. He walked down the hallway taking his left that led to his mother's bedroom, he plopped his head'

''Mom?'' he called out as she turned to him, she had been wiping her face and putting on a mask; usually her routine.

''What's the matter, Finn?'' She asked

''I'll be going out with Jack!'' he said as he turned to leave then she blurted out

''Do you mean a party?'' she cringed

''N…No not at all, it's only a hangout kinda thing.'' He said also cringing

''Don't forget…'' she began as he interrupted quickly

''…You are not a up to eighteen, yes I remember that perfectly!'' he concluded, of course he could not tell her the truth about the hangout. He went over to where she sat then he placed a swift on her head and stomped out

''Be back before midnight, Finn!'' she screamed from behind

''Of course, Mom!'' he screamed back and the next thing she heard was the door slam.

He strode down three steps taking his left which was leading to Jack's apartment, there was a tall huge man in an all-black coat and trouser, shoes and hat, he was staring at Finn intently, directly in the eye, it pricked him that he was compelled to stand still to look back. The man pulled out a cigar from its pack and a lighter to ignite it, he tucked the butt into his mouth and ignited it. It slowly burnt into flames reaching his lips and yet he was not perturbed by the heat. He let out a mischievous smile after chewing the ashes.

''That's weird.'' Finn whispered underneath his breath, a car drove by causing an obstruction between them, when the car had driven away, the man was no longer there. Finn was about to make his attempt to move away from the spot h's been glued to, he bumped into the mysterious man. The man was holding up a dagger over Finn's head while Finn shrieked in fear, he felt his bones numbing and his blood pumper faster.

''Finn?'' Jack called out in front and the mysterious man was no longer in view, Jack ran to Finn while Finn fumbled almost landing to the ground. He was panting breathlessly.

  ''What's the matter bro?''

''I really…really don't know. Its…nothing I think!'' Finn said almost whispering ''I'm fine, should we?'' Finn inquired feigning to be just fine.

''Sure!'' Jack snapped, he had no idea what must have happened he smiled broadly and asked ''Guess what?''

''You got the keys to the car.'' Finn snapped excitedly, he could barely remember that he had been shaken in fear moments ago.

''That's right!'' Jack snapped smirking too. ''Trust me on that, man, I could never be caught lagging to my girl's party.'' He bragged as they shook in swagger and walked to Jack's driveway. They both hopped into the car as they drove to Lindsey's apartment that was only feet away. Jack had initially opted that Finn texted Lindsey but Finn declined, he was shy for no good reason. Jack texted instead since his coaxes had no effect.

*Come outside, we at your door right now!*

                        *Hold on. Is F coming?*

She texted back then he texted again

              *Come find out!*

She wrapped herself with a blanket as she slowly tiptoed through the hallway as her mother called out instantly, she froze swallowing up.

''Where are you headed to, young girl?'' Dolly asked teasingly ''Are you now sleep walking to the kitchen?''

''Eww! I wanna get some water, I am completely dehydrated at the moment.'' Lindsey said hoping her mother doesn't asks her to turn around because she had make up on at an odd hour.

''Well, I have a good feeling that you are up to something girl, turn around.'' Dolly demanded, Lindsey was freezing. She slowly turned as her father, Logan, screamed from their bedroom.

  ''Honey, I can't find my reading glasses…''

''Drink up and head to bed, sweetheart. Early to bed early to rise.'' Dolly jabbered walking into her bedroom.

''Yes Mom!'' Lindsey snapped affirmatively, she made sure her parents were busy with whatever they were doing, she ran out of the living room after she took the spare keys and switched off the lights.

She sighted the car that was parked across the street, she hurried towards then hopped in without a waste of time, they sped away.

''Seriously?'' Jack taunted because of the blanket wrapped around her

''F*ck you, Jack!'' she raised her right middle finger then unwrapped the blanket but Finn was silent, he was surfing the net instead.

''Finn?'' she called out as soon as she noticed that he sat in front abreast Jack. ''I didn't you know were gonna come around. I thought your Mom might wanna hold you back 'cause of earlier.'' She said in a giggly tone

''But I did!'' he snapped ''I actually thought that you were not. Like, you spent the entire day to show up.'' Finn stirred without turning to her, his head was still fixated to the screen.

''I almost had a wreck in there. Mom caught me…kinda…but I had my way around it.'' She bragged. She knew that she didn't do much but telling the truth in details would only be a topic for a taunt by Jack in particular

''Whatever guys, it's all about the party and not some oldies tonight.'' Jack stated turning the volume of the pop music playing, Finn and Lindsey consented swaying almost invisibly.
