Chapter 18.3

In the rainy season, sunny days are hard to come by. It is amazing if they last half a day. The heavy rain that had just stopped in the morning did not hold back in the afternoon, and it fell again like a pour.

Kevin brushed away the small flying insects that were about to land on him and grumbled. "These bugs are tireless. They don't even hide from such heavy rain." He had ordered the archery endurance practice to be replaced with horseback fighting in the rain, and he was now hurrying out of the camp gate and onto the cableway.

Ben stayed behind to train with the Bronze Army, and Angel followed Kevin like a small tail. Kevin was on his way to the palace to find Oswald, and he had been summoned by Sinia.

"Your Excellency is here? The young master is waiting for you in the study," Ian said. He still hadn't been able to break the habit of calling Kevin "young master," even though Oswald didn't mind.

"I'll go there now," Kevin said. "My goodness, when it rains, all these bugs gather in the corridor." He frowned and waved away a few of the insects, which were the size of sesame seeds. They scattered for a moment, but then they returned, tirelessly annoying him.

These flying insects were not usually so plentiful, but this year they had suddenly multiplied to the point of becoming a nuisance. Mi Ao had written back to Kevin with exaggerated complaints, such as "There are so many flying insects in the military tent that it could lift me," and "Last night when I was sleeping, I crushed all the insects to death casually." The Red Iron Army in the Kela River area was even worse, as the humidity was high and there were even more insects and ants.

Although these small black bugs flew silently, they were not as noisy as hard-mouthed mosquitoes, but they were also masters of biting. When they bit, a small rash would appear, which was hot and itchy, and very uncomfortable.

"Yes, these bugs are much more difficult to deal with than hard-mouthed mosquitoes," Ian replied. He then directed other servants to sprinkle powder on the corners of the corridor, in an attempt to reduce the number of these pests.

Almost everyone had been bitten by the insects, including Oswald. After all, bugs did not care whether you were the emperor or not.

Kevin was relatively lucky. He had also been bitten, but he had a unique self-healing ability. The rashes always started to disappear as soon as they appeared, and they were gone in the blink of an eye. Naturally, they didn't itch as much.

He walked around the servants who were spreading the powder and headed towards the study. Angel paused for a moment and nodded his eyebrows and lips to the flying insects in the sky. This was the usual prayer gesture used by those who believed in the post-god.

"Praying that the insects do not bite people is a more ineffective approach than killing them outright," Kevin remarked casually.

As soon as he finished speaking, he heard a few screams from the servants in the study, which caused his eyebrows to furrow in surprise.

"What has happened?!" he inquired.
