This is it, Goodbye!

Selene was hesitant to tell a total stranger about it but she went on anyway, "Today at the ball, my father announced that I'll be marrying his friend's son. It was a shock to me and I couldn't bear with it. So, the only thing that felt right was running away from there."

Deimos felt sympathetic towards her. "I'm sorry to know that."

"If this is against your will then why don't you disapprove of this marriage?" He suggested.

Selene shook her head with gloom. "Because if I do, I'll hurt my parents." Her voice was weak.

"Have you even met the guy?"

"Yes! He's a good friend of mine." She sounded a little cheerful.

"So, you like him?" It was as if glass shattered inside Deimos heart, he couldn't digest his own words.

"I don't know. He is my friend and we have known each other since childhood, but I never thought that it would come to this. When I learnt about the decision our father's made, I couldn't decipher a single thought. Everyone was happy and I didn't know who to talk to, so I ran away." She confessed with a heavy heart.

A hope birthed inside him. "One thing is clear here."

"What do you mean?" She was bewildered.

"You don't love him at all. He is your good friend and there is nothing here more than this." He concluded.

"I am aware of the fact but it is going to be tough for me to see him differently from now on."

"Do you love someone else?" Deimos's voice was disheartening but he kept walking with his back to her.

"I don't. In fact, I don't believe I will ever love anyone." Words blurted out of her mouth before she can push them back in.

He gave out a small laugh. "No one has ever been capable of dodging love."

"Then maybe I'll be the first of the kind." She joked along as she continued following him through the forest.

"As if that will ever happen!" He challenged her, aware that she would hiss at this.

Selene replied, "And you're saying that because you can predict the fate."

"Fate changes within the blink of an eye. And yours changed when you ran here into the dark woods." A strange satisfaction caressed his heart and he smiled.

"You and your words. I am never going to understand any of them." Selene joked again.

They continued to walk for minutes through the dark. The moonlight couldn't reach through the thick canopy and so Selene was unable to distinguish between things. Luckily Deimos helped her every now and then with the bushes or the arched branches. With his wolf senses, it was a cakewalk for him to see in the dark,

After strolling for what seemed like an hour, there was finally an opening ahead of the thick woods where the light seemed to touch the dark.

Selene sighed in relief at the sight of it and began to run towards what seemed like an exit to the eternal darkness. She ran quickly and when she was under the sky again, the moonlight bathing her skin, making it look more radiant.

If there are any wonders in the world, then he was certain she would be one of them. She was worthy of being treasured and he felt like he should be her treasurer.

"Thankyou for helping me walk out!" Selene told him as she saw her closing in on her slowly.

"Oh you know how to thank someone? I thought the only thing you knew was to bark!" He laughed.

Selene rolled her eyes at his answer and looked down upon the lights coming from the kingdom of Santok ahead. From the distance the lights of the houses looked like fireflies stuck in times, glowing every now and then.

"So, this is it, I guess!" Her voice was low but audible to his ears.

"Until next time!" He completed her unfinished sentence with a heavy heart.

You could never look away from the moon if you ever saw it once and that's how Deimos felt in that moment. He wished if he could find a way to keep her forever with him. But she was an unknown girl from an enemy kingdom and he had to let her go.

The strange current he had felt before was growing again in his body. It was overpowering and inevitable. For some reason he believed he is going under transformation again. But that was not the case.

This rush appeared once again when he realized she was leaving and more than anything else right now, he wanted to grab her and stay close to her. This unknown foreign feeling was making him vulnerable and he couldn't help but give in to it.

"All the best for your sleuthing missions." Selene wished him as she noticed he was zoning out into his thoughts.
