Ch 108: Convinced

"Simply give it time, Kai," Dr. Riley emphasized behind her desk inside her private office. "As I said back in the room. She has the pregnancy symptoms but I'm not entirely sure because fertility pills have the same sharing side effects. However, because her cycle changed. This could suggest she is pregnant or her body is adjusting from being sexually active."

Formerly, Kai used the perfect bathroom excuse to sneak off to talk with Dr. Riley without Victoria knowing.

"Why couldn't you just give her that thing you call an ultrasound to be sure?" Kai hissed in the chair across her desk.

Still, he was learning little by little about this new age he had woken up to. These indifferent medical procedures were still very new to his knowledge.

Dr. Riley, sighed, "Because Kai vampire babies are harder to detect. You know vampire babies have mysterious supernatural gifts to protect themselves from threats like other vampires. Which gives them the ability to hide themselves and their scent in the womb. There isn't any guarantee that your baby would wanna be noticed."

Kai huffed as he listened to Dr. Riley's medical advice. "Most human mothers don't even know they are pregnant this soon. This is why I instructed you not to have intercourse. Until a pregnancy test shows to be positive or she starts her cycle," said Dr. Riley.

"Then what are those pills you gave my wife?" Kai grumbled, stubbornly.

"An increased dosage of fertility pills," Dr. Riley informed. "Jack got her the small starting dosage. All I did was increase her medicine. She only thinks she's taking birth control. If you hold off on being sexually involved with her, in case her cycle starts. Then afterward, mate with her once it ends for a higher conception. It's like giving both your bodies a reset right when she will be ovulating if she has her cycle."

"Ok," Kai nodded to understand. "How did her examination go?"

Dr. Riley explained, "Victoria's examination went well. She has a healthy young body for breeding before long. I'd suspect she'll be pregnant soon if she isn't already but you need to be patient."

Kai hissed ghastly patience just wasn't his thing. "How long does it take until I start sensing my offspring?"

"That depends, Kai," Dr. Riley chuckled. "If your offspring takes after your stubbornness it could be a while."

Kai rolled his eyes not finding this funny like Dr. Riley. She's known Kai since his mother was pregnant with him. Kai isn't any stranger to her since she watched him grow up into the vicious vampire he is. Dr. Riley could only wonder if his offspring will be sweet like Victoria or ferocious like Kai. Either way, it will certainly be an interesting combination, thought Dr. Riley.

Kai sighed, cooling down his temper. "Are you certain she can get pregnant?"

"More than certain," Dr. Riley confidently answered. "Just be supportive of her since she is nervous and this isn't what she wants."

Kai snorted, "I don't care about what she wants. I know she'll be a loving mother once we have our first offspring."

"Indeed, she will be Kai," Dr. Riley shared. "She expressed a lot of worries if she was pregnant because she only thinks she's been taking the morning-after pill. Pregnant or not be supportive because eventually, you'll be expecting an offspring."

Satisfied with this information, Kai said, "Thank you, Dr. Riley."

He got up gesturing his gratitude before he took his leave. He met everyone else waiting for him in the waiting room but he noticed Victoria was acting a bit strange holding the bag of supplies in her hand. Kai tried not to grin at her. If only she knew she wasn't taking birth control, Kai chuckled in his head.

"What took you so long?" Ace complained but Kai ignored him.

"Let's get out of here," Kai said, taking Victoria's shaky hand. He then put her in the back seat of Rome's skyline and off they drove.

Victoria did everything in her power, not to look at Kai in the rearview mirror. Kai inwardly chuckled at how bad she was at playing it cool. Evidently, Victoria isn't very good at deceiving others. The poor girl was far too innocent for him, thought Kai.

At dinner, Victoria felt worse so she couldn't eat. Her stomach was cramping so much that she almost vomited but then she fell asleep.

Kai stroked her stomach hoping to sense his offspring while she slept. Yet to his disappointment he felt nothing. She just had to be pregnant, Kai was convinced. Victoria nearly threw up and he even called Dr. Riley again. Over the phone, Dr. Riley only repeated her words and said pregnant or not this was normal.

Kai was flustered right now. So he got up from the bed and went out on his balcony. Once he closed the glass doors, he leaped up to his roof edge to sit and stare at the starry map above.

"Did she fall asleep?" Ace asked, coming up from behind. He took a seat next to his left as Ivan sat by his right.

"Yes, she finally passed out after almost vomiting," Kai sighed softly with his reply.

"Must be hard to be a woman," Ivan chuckled.

"And a vampiress, Rose was vomiting earlier," Ace shared. "But she finally went to sleep."

"How did the appointment go with the vamp baby?" Ivan asked.

"It went well. She's in her second trimester at 14 weeks." Ace proudly announced. "My son is very healthy."

Kai and Ivan laughed at him for being so convinced that he was having a boy.

"When are you going to know the gender?" Kai asked, chuckling.

"Next month in July we should know," Ace said pridefully. "But I know he's a boy. I can sense it every time I'm bonding with him outside the womb."

"Well, maybe he is a boy but Rose seems pretty convinced you guys are having a girl," Ivan chuckled.

"Rose is delusional and wishful thinking," Ace joked which made them laugh.

"How long did it take you to start sensing your offspring?" Kai asked out of curiosity and he just had to know.

"It took me like four weeks," Ace replied.

"That's how I discovered we were pregnant. Plus, I noticed Rose was acting differently. She was very tired, sick, and pale."

Kai kinda motioned his head as a response. Ace and Ivan could tell he was upset about what to think.

"Hey, just give it time. Even if she isn't pregnant eventually she will be," Ivan pats his back twice, encouraging Kai not to stress about it.

"I'm trying to keep my cool," Kai lowly chuckled. "I'll be back after I check on her."
