The Boy Who Didn’t Live

"I already told you peasant, you will never defeat me!" Dragon Knight yelled.

"Oh yeah? Didn't you say you were ONLY ranked at 135 on the leaderboards?" Enzo shouted back.

"ONLY 135? Of course an idiot like you wouldn't understand how good that is!"

"Of course I don't, I am ranked top 70, so 135 is nothing to me" Enzo said smugly.

"Liar!

Fireball!"

Enzo quickly rolled to the side before getting on one knee and drawing back his bowstring.

While Dragon Knight was distracted by Enzo's provocation, he didn't notice that Enzo was slowly putting away his katana and taking off his bow and drawing an arrow.

Woosh!

Enzo let the arrow fly once he felt it was adequately aimed at the magician.

"Ahhh!"

-50

The arrow flew straight through Dragon Knight's left ear cutting off a large chunk of it and causing him to scream in pain like a little girl.

"Lightning Bolt!" Dragon Knight frantically shouted as he saw Enzo drawing another arrow.

Enzo rolled on the ground once more before letting the arrow fly.

Dragon Knight was prepared this time and dodged just like Enzo was doing to his magic attacks.

However, Dragon Knight's dodge wasn't sufficient to fully get away from the arrow. Not only was he not used to dodging ranged attacks, but he also didn't have many points put into his agility stat.

Enzo may not have been used to dodging ranged attacks either, but his high agility stat was able to compensate for that.

-300

Instead of hitting him in the neck like Enzo aimed for, the arrow went right into his heart. The heart may not have been given to Enzo as one of his weaknesses, but it definitely did cause more damage than normal.

"Ugh." Dragon Knight gave one last moan in pain before his body collapsed to the ground.

[You have killed Dragon Knight.]

[+500 Exp]

Enzo frowned.

'That's a lot of exp…' He thought to himself.

Just like back in the forest when Enzo and Juliet killed those players in the tutorial forest, they got a lot more experience than if they would have if they killed a monster of the same level. The difference was that this time Enzo wasn't in such shock from what felt like killing another human to notice it. When they killed those people in the forest Juliet and Enzo were too disgusted with the sight of a human corpse lying in front of them to notice much else.

"That's really going to cause problems when people realize it." Enzo mumbled to himself.

He could already see players killing other players for nothing else other than the reward of extra experience points in the future.

'I need to finally check out what the death penalty is in this game.'

If players suddenly started hunting each other down Enzo wanted to know just how cautious of them he needed to be.

Enzo's attention was brought back to the real world when Dragon Knight's friends started taking out their weapons and pointing them at him.

"Hey boys, don't you think it's a little bit cowardly to jump someone?" He asked.

This time his goal wasn't to provoke them, but to calm them down. He may have wanted to fight other players for experience in both fighting and points, but he wanted to fight them one at a time, not all at once.

This deterred them a little bit, but after whispering amongst themselves they seemed to decide to still attack Enzo together to avenge their friend.

However, they were interrupted by the adventurer's guild workers before they could move farther than a step.

"Attention!" One of them shouted.

"We have finished analyzing the dungeon.

It is a Level 10 solo dungeon meaning only a certain number of people will be able to enter at a time as usually there are limited dungeon instances. We will allow you to enter first come first serve, and the first person to complete it will get a reward based on the information they provide the guild."

Enzo had already started sprinting as fast as he could once he heard the man say it was first come first serve.

Seeing this, the other players decided to follow his lead, but they were a few seconds too late and Enzo was much closer than the others to the entrance to the dungeon.

"NO!"

"STOP HIM!"

"WE HAD DIBS YOU CHEATER!"

The players yelled at the top of their lungs.

Enzo ignored their shouts and even the attacks some of them flung his way and dove through the pitch black portal that was the entrance to the dungeon.

"Oof!"

Enzo fell right on his stomach as he was transported to the dungeon.

Ding!

[You have entered the Dungeon of the Vengeful]

[Level Limits: 10-15]

[Dungeon Failure Penalties: Loss of a level and return to the set spawn point.]

[Dungeon Clear Rewards: +500 Exp]

"Not bad, but I guess this means I need to find out how to set a spawn point now in case I die." Enzo mumbled.

The dungeon clear rewards were what really interested him because if he would be getting that exp on top of what he would get from killing monsters inside of it, that would be a lot for each run.

It would take hours, potentially even days to get 500 exp just from monsters. So, if the dungeon didn't take long then even if he was only able to get one run done every few days or so it would be worth it.

Enzo then stood up and observed his surroundings.

He was in a cave that looked like what any other dungeon area would be expected to look like.

It was relatively dark other than the crystals lighting up the area, and the cave was basically a long and wide hallway. It was a straight shot to the end of the corridor so Enzo knew exactly where to go.

He took his bow off his shoulder again, nocked an arrow, and started walking forward.

After only moving a few feet forwards, Enzo noticed something suddenly popping out of the ground in the distance.
