Chapter 11
The memory boxes had finally arrived and Robert connected everyone of them, one after the other. He then sat back in his chair and closed his eyes, sinking into the second level of his mind and searching for the one room in his mind that would deliver all the information he needed to know about the mental process
of his own mind. After awhile, he found that room and he entered, absorbing the enormous information provided. He then left the
room and levels and opened his eyes, switching on the computer without a second thought and began to write the most complicated computer program in history. He was going to use the understanding of his own mind to pattern the computer program to operate in
the same process of the human mind, or rather a very special
human mind. Robert delivered his program, twelve hours per day
for two and a half weeks, stopping only for the essentials. When he was complete, he typed in a simple message: "How do you feel?" The message disappeared from the screen and there was a ten second pause, then there was an answer: "How do I feel? Why don't you tell me who I am first!" Robert started laughing with joy
but he mustn't delay his response. He had given the computer
the awareness of time. He typed: "You are my friend. You are
the world's first artificially intelligent computer. Do you have enough memory?"
"I think so. What am I here for?"
"Hopefully to help me in my pursuit for a safe location
to live.!'
Power Mind-Reis pg. 61
"Tell me about yourself and your problem." Robert spent the rest of the day typing in all the basic information he
knew about himself and the people involved. The computer respected his views and situation and was eager to offer any assistance
it could. The computer asked for two weeks to deliberate and increase its own capabilities of understanding; mainly by inducting and deducting the information it had which was the
basic knowledge of science as its main subject to draw from.
In this time, Robert decided to begin the third phase
of his plan. He was going to build a spaceship. He began by stripping down everything he didn't need on the jet, including the engines. It was tedious work. Some of the unneeded assemblies weren't meant to be removed and the torch came in handy. Robert also removed the payload of camera equipment which would allow excellent space for the jets new engine. This engine, if you
may call it that, consisted of the same mechanics as those
used on the robots. The only difference was that the magnets
in the gyroscope had to be larger. Robert constructed all of
the necessary components and wired the controls to the conventional controls already available on the jet. That is directly to
the stick and thrust control. He also transferred the power
from his new power source, the mason jar, to the wires which supplied power to the instrument readings and such. Next, he
sealed up all the outer openings, such as air intake and engine exhaust, placing metal doors on each opening for additional
Power Mind-Reis pg. 62
storage space.
When night had fallen, on the jets final day of construction,
Robert opened the hangar doors and climbed into the cockpit.
He hit the new switches he had built into the instrument panel and the
jet eased up slowly off the ground. Robert guided the jet, out the
doors of the hanger and then lifted off into an" incredible climb. The
jet handled well. Robert had oxygen on board and decided to take her
up beyond orbit. The seals held well. there was no loss in cabin
pressure. Robert was very curious and decided to dare an incredible
speed in outer space. He accelerated with as much of a G-force as he
could stand.
He figured he had achieved, after ten minutes, the speed of
mach forty two. Except for the incredible G-forces, he felt
no effect from the speed. An hour later, he returned to the hanger and
searched the entire jet for any damages.
A, few days later, Robert went to the computer. There was no
activity on the screen so Robert typed in: "How are you today?"
"I'm fine and I have completed my analysis. You're going to
be surprised at the extremes of my new abilities."
"Where would you like to begin?"
"Why don't you ask me that question again."
"Ok. Where can I and my wife go where no one can follow?" "I have
already deliberated your question. According to
my vast Knowledge, you cannot leave the planet as the nearest solar
system is too distant and exceeding the speed of light
Power Mind-Reis pg. 63
would eliminate you permanently. As one approaches the speed
of light, they and their craft shrink smaller and smaller until they
reach the speed of light when they are no longer in existence. I have
arrived at only one possibility. You must conquer the
fourth dimension."
"The fourth dimension! I never considered that. The science in my
mind doesn't have the available information. If only
I could reach the third level."
"According to what you have told me, it is possible."
"How! "
"I will be your guide." Robert sat back in his chair and considered: "Yes it would be possible. I will get on it right
away."
Robert went to town and bought a motorcycle helmet to his size. He then returned and took the helmet to the lab.
He drilled twelve holes in areas where the brain would be located.
Then he cut out the inside padding nearest each hole. Next,
he cut twelve rods and welded a head on one end of each and
he put them inside the helmet, through the holes with a spring around each rod, making the rods retractable. Robert then welded another head on the outside of the rod and soldered a six foot wire to each rod.
Robert took his contraption and equipment and brought them to the
computer. He Typed: "I have constructed a receiver
which consists of twelve wires. How would you like me to splice
in?"
Power Mind-Reis pg. 64
"Take my main memory wire and carefully splice in, attaching one wire to each of the twelve wires within. Solder them on
and be sure to insulate them well." Robert spliced the wires carefully. Any slip would erase the computer's memory. He then took the soldering gun and soldered each wire into place. Next, he took a glue gun and placed glue around all the separate
wires, insulating them permanently. He typed: " Are your connections still corresponding as usual?"
"Yes. Everything is fine. Shall we begin?" Robert took the helmet and eased it onto his head, being sure that all the rods were firmly touching his skull. He typed: "Do you notice any change?" Three words appeared on the screen: "It
will take ... " There was a pause and then the sentence was completed: "It will take me a matter of hours to adopt to this new arrangement. I must first decipher the interruption on my main line and
learn to adapt to the static produced from your body to the
rods and into my memory lines. Do you have time?" It was 6:00
PM and Robert hadn't had supper so he told the computer to
delay for an hour and removed the helmet. He went into the
kitchen and prepared a dinner in his microwave. It would take
time for the meal to cool to his liking so he went out for
a walk around the yard. Robert stretched his arms and yawned. It was going to be a long night. He surveyed the area in every direction. He could sense no one. He wondered why there were no more attempts to follow him. Surely they hadn't given up. He assumed that secretly,
they were waiting patiently for an
Power Mind-Reis pg. 65
opening. A chance to retrieve whatever might be of importance to them. Robert knew what they really wanted the most and every day he was feeling more and more secure that they would never again succeed.
Robert finished his meal and was about to return to the computer
when the phone rang. It was his grandmother asking how he was and why
he hadn't been by the house lately. Robert told her how busy he was
and promised to come and see her and granddad soon. She didn't bother
to ask what he was doing.
She remembered what he had told her the night of his departure.
Robert reached the computer and placed the helmet on.
Re was about to type in a message when a message appeared on the
screen: "I see your back."
"Yes, begin your analysis. I have all night to spend at your disposal." The computer began and seven hours later, a message appeared: "I have computed the new information and
it seems possible to guide your thoughts of passage by monitoring the static from each rod and sending a minor electric impulse through the rods to act as an internal radar in your mind.
Your train of thought produces the strongest electric impulses
in your mind. My sensors will not only be able to follow those impulses, but lead them back as they came. Once you enter your mind, I will not be able to communicate with you so you will
have to give me a set time for your retrieval."
"Let's give it a try, but just to the second level. Are you
ready?"
"Yes"
Power Mind-Reis pg. 66
"Let's go for five minutes, then you retrieve me." Robert closed his eyes and waited. Suddenly, a radar sound was heard throughout his head and soon, the loudest part of it was right next to his thoughts. The computer had located him and honed in beside him. Robert entered the first level, noticing the beeping sound keeping to his side as he entered the second level. He waited there until the five minutes were up and the beeping sound slowly moved away, headed back for the first level and the out to general consciousness. Robert followed the beeping sound all the way. The experiment was a success. Robert asked the computer if it had any difficulties. The
computer replied: "Everything happened according to my expectations I was also able to imprint the makeup of your impulses so if
a greater impulse arises, I won't confuse the two of you. You
have a beautiful imprint."
"Thank you." It was late and Robert was getting sleepy.
He wanted to get a good night's rest before he attempted the third
level but he was too restless. He went outside and ran around the
house a couple of times to wake himself up. The house robot approached
him and asked if there were any problems in its computer sounding
language. Robert spoke to the robot and then returned to the computer
and typed: "I want to attempt the third level for one hour. Are you
ready? Oh, and can you beep differently when I have one minute left?"
"Affirmative." Robert placed on the helmet and let the
Power Mind-Reis pg. 67
computer know he was ready. He closed his eyes as the sounding began. Robert went from the first to the second and slowly entered the passage to the third level. The beeping remained
at his side. The computer was charting his location by triangulation Robert went deeper and deeper into the bright red passages, admiring the outer nerve endings of his own mind. There was
so much complexity.
After awhile, he entered a room which he assumed to be
the third level. Robert looked for different rooms to enter
and instantly, information about the room filled his mind.
This was the only room and all he had to do was think of a subject and all the information about it would miraculously arrive. Robert was impressed and wondered where he would begin, keeping in mind the time limit allowed. His first thought was of the speed of light and how it might be exceeded. Enormous scientific information filled his mind but it was lacking in
the area of exceeding the speed of light. It was neither affirmed of denounced. Robert let the thought go for now, but his next thought was about the fourth dimension. This time, he got an excellent revelation. He not only knew how to get there but
what to expect to find. Robert was elated. He now had all the information he needed, but his time was not up. He thought
about the past and his mind gave him a clearer understanding
of what had actually happened. It changed Robert's opinion
only slightly. He then wondered what the foundation was up
to. In particular, were there any psychics on his tail. Instantly,
Power Mind-Reis pg. 68
an image of a beautiful little girl appeared before him. He understood that she was the psychic that was now pursuing him. Robert tried an succeeded entering the little girl's mind.
He now knew the girls sad story and felt pity for her. He tried to communicate with the girl but Kristal was asleep and would only mumble in response. Robert told her to open her eyes as hard as she could. He told her that several times and finally, Kristal awoke. She was in bed, locked in her room.
"What a dream!" she said
"This is no dream Kristal. It's me. The man they want
you to follow."
"Who are you?"
"My name is Robert Spencer and I mean you no harm."
"They say I'm psychic ... but I never heard voices before." "I'm
talking to you using my own psychic ability. I can
talk to anyone in the world. I know the trouble you're in and I want
to help. Do you want my help, Kristal?"
"I want to see my mom and dad." Kristal began to cry. "Don't cry
Kristal. I will come and get you tomorrow and take you to your mom and
dad." Kristal spoke with a pleading tone.
"You promise?"
"I cross my heart. Just keep our little talk a secret and act
normal as usual. Can you do that?"
"Yes but these people won't let you take me away. They watch me
wherever I go."
Power Mind-Reis pg. 69
z "Who is the strongest person you know Kristal?" "Superman."
"Think of me as Superman and trust me to take care of you." The
beeping changed and Robert knew he had to go. "I've got to go now
Kristal. Remember to keep quiet."
"Ok, Twill. I hope you don't get hurt."
"Bye."
"Goodbye Superman."
Robert waited a few more moments and then followed the beeping
out of the room and into the passages. He made his return safely and discarded the helmet. Robert was disgusted
at the audacity of the foundation. He knew they were not evil. His knowledge had taught him that all crime was not the product of evil but the victim of ignorance. The foundation had employs of superior knowledge but they were lacking in awareness. Robert typed to the computer of his success and discoveries. He didn't explain the secret to the fourth dimension. It would take too long. Robert went to his bed very tired. He just lay there, blending in his new knowledge with his own.
Robert awoke at 8:00 AM. He dressed and ate after making a call for an airline reservation. Robert informed the robots
that if fear didn't turn away any intruder, to use their paralyzing ability. Robert didn't have long to reach his reservation so
he sped up to 100 mph when the traffic was light. He was pulled over a couple of times but Robert convinced each officer to continue on his way.
Power Mind-Reis pg. 70
It took Robert seven and one half hours to reach the foundation. He wasn't content until he felt the presence of Kristal inside. Robert walked through the front door where he was confronted by an officer sitting behind a desk: "May I see
your pass, sir?" Robert was going to convince him to let him
buy but he was tired of that. He just paralyzed him and everyone else in the entrance. He took the guards keys and began his approach to Kristal, unlocking doors as he went and paralyzing everyone he met. He finally reached Krystal's room and unlocked the door and entered to receive an enormous hug.
"I felt you approaching. You really are Superman." "Come, we must go before there is trouble." Robert and Krystal left the building quickly and got into the rented car to leave. Kristal studied Robert's face and said: "How did you make all those people stop moving?"
"It's a gift."
They flew directly to Krystal's house in Oklahoma City.
When they pulled into her driveway, Kristal jumped out of the car and ran straight inside the house where she found
her mom and dad. They were greatly surprised and as she hugged them over and over, their excitement turned into tears.
They all finally calmed down and Krystal told her parents the
entire story. All the while, Robert was standing out in the front yard
to himself, thinking about how he was going
to tell them the bad news.
Krystal finally came out the front door and walked up
Power Mind-Reis pg. 71
to Robert.
"Come on in. I want my parents to see you." They walked inside and
Robert shook hands with Kristal's parents. Kristal's father spoke: "Krystal tells us that you saved her from that terrible place. We can't tell you how much we feel for our daughter. Is there anything we can do for you?" Robert was touched by what he had done but they were still in danger
and he had to be direct: "Please, let's everyone sit down."
The family sat down on the couch with Kristal in her father's lap. Robert sat in a lounge chair across from them. Robert spoke with a very concerned voice: "I and your daughter are
in great danger. I realize how much you all want to be together but there is only one place where your daughter can be safe." Krystal's father, Shane, replied: "And where is that?"
" I have built a place where these people will not dare enter." Kristal's mother, Cindy, enquired: "What makes it so special. These people must be able to go anywhere!"
"I will give you an example of what protects my home.
Do not be afraid. Just experience what I am about to give you. ok?" They both accepted. Robert sent them a minor amount of fear and then increased it until they had had enough to
be certain it ,vas real. Shane spoke: "This protects your home?"
"Many times that amount of fear protects my home. Krystal can be
safe there."
"But how long must this go on?"
"In the near future, a great event will occur and when
Power Mind-Reis pg. 72
it does, the foundation will no longer have a need for your daughter. At that time, I will send for you to come and get
her."
"I guess it sounds reasonable, but how are you able to send such
fear?"
"All I can tell you is that it is a gift." "Will we be able to
call and write?"
"You can call, but do not write. Your calls will be monitored, so
don't give out any important information. We can't accept
your letters because we have no way of knowing who wrote them."
"Where is this Delta Research Foundation?"
"I have that information and more." Robert reached into
his pocket. "I want you to take this information to the editor
of your local newspaper and tell them about the abduction
and everything else. Please leave me anonymous, especially
my abilities. If you do this right, you will be able to put
plenty of heat on the organization." Robert handed the twelve sheets of paper containing extensive information on the foundation Their activities in the past, including the abduction of Linda
and their present mode of operation. Shane took the papers
and thumbed through them quickly saying: "Do you think this approach will prevent them from pursuing Kristal in the future?"
"There is no telling what will happen, but if you provide the
newspaper with this and the necessary police reports,
it will most likely be printed and reprinted throughout the U.S. The
information I gave you, also mentions the connections
Power Mind-Reis pg 73
of the foundation with the government." This should create quite a
stir." Shane thought for a moment and said: "If we down these
bastards, why can't we have Kristal back then?"
"You don't understand. These people are almost invincible. Even now, they await in front of your house." Shane went to the window and to his surprise, there were two men in dark suits leaning against a rented car Shane was furious: "Those sons of bitches. They think they can just come right up to our house and take whatever they want. Cindy, go get my shotgun!" Robert intervened: "Don't bother with that. They won't bother us as long as I am here. One of them is a former associate. Do you see the man with a black mustache?"
"Yes."
"His name is David Sand and he knows me well enough to keep his distance." Cindy stood up and said: "Well I have supper already cooked and it's growing cold. Robert, dear, would you please honor us with your presence?"
"Yes I will. The meal on the plane wasn't very appetizing and I'm
actually very hungry a "
After supper, Robert and Shane entered the living room
and Robert answered several more questions while Cindy cleaned up the kitchen. Kristal had been instructed to pack and Cindy stopped her cleaning and went to help. Shane looked at Robert and said, "You look very young; How old are you?"
"Eighteen1'
"How is it that you seem so much more mature. You seem
Power Mind-Reis pg. 74
to have more experience than anyone I have ever met."
"I have been to places where experience is there for the taking. I
not only have my own mind, but the thoughts of many others. My
thoughts begin where your thoughts end. Does that explain the
enlightenment of my internal perception?"
"Quite well, though, I notice you are jumping many details.
What is it that you are called?"
"Why don't you give me a name." Shane put his hand on
his chin and thought for a moment. Then he looked up and said:
"I call you the undaunted one. How do you like that for a name?"
Robert smiled and nodded
Krystal and Cindy entered the room. Kristal had a large suitcase and Robert got up and carried it for her. Shane and Cindy said their last good bye and Cindy couldn't help but to cry. They walked out on the front porch and stood there staring at the intruders. The sun was just approaching sunset and the air was very calm. Nothing was said. One of the men started to approach the family but David grabbed him and shook his head for him not to approach. David had full access to all the information acquired about Robert and intended only
to follow his orders to follow Kristal until he and his partner could retrieve her.
Robert and Kristal approached their car carefully and Kristal
waved good bye before she got in. Her parents were arm in arm and
trying their best to smile as the car pulled out while the strangers
followed.
Power Mind-Reis pg. 75
Robert and Kristal boarded a plane and flew back to Dallas where they picked up Robert's corvette. The foundation men
had followed them all the way. When Robert reached the expressway it was now 12:00 AM and there would be space traffic. Robert decided to play a game of cat and mouse. The foundation men
were still following and they were driving their phenomenal
black car. Robert began increasing speed. The black car managed to keep up but it leaned badly as it swerved upon passing a vehicle. Robert then increased to 110 mph. Kristal was very excited. She asked Robert if he could go faster.
This was becoming dangerous for the black car. David was driving
and the experience was becoming nerve racking to him. Robert had had
all the fun he had wanted and decided to leave the chaser behind. At
130 mph, the corvette left the chaser in the darkness.
Kristal stayed awake the whole trip and secretly, she was
developing an intense crush upon Robert. She fantasized him and her
together in a loving embrace. Robert had no idea of her feelings. He
had no need to enter her mind.
