Chapter 19: Well, that was Awkward

“Look, Loki, there is a possibility that Persephone did join Nightshade willingly and she is happily enjoying her time as the Alpha’s consort,” I pointed out slowly.

That dark gleam in Loki’s eyes told me he was scheming something. His eyes were on me but not meeting mine. Like he was seeing me but not really seeing me. I was a figment, or a means to an end.

“We won’t know until Ash gets back to us,” Loki said, his voice soft and far away.

Loki blinked several times, attention returning to the present. He held a hand out to me, offering a smooth, charming smile.

My stomach erupted with butterflies and I slowly put my hand in his, all my former reservations flying away on little wings. His fingers closed around mine and Loki simultaneously stood up and pulled me closer to him.
