Yvette broke out of her daze when the car pulled over to a halt. She looked out of the window, and her eyes fell on the tall building in front of her, just beside the busy city roads with all the motor engines rushing at their routine speed.
Wasn't she supposed to go to the Collins' household? Then why is she here, in a commercial area, instead of the oh-so-famous secluded area, all to the end of the city where no city hustles and noises penetrate through?
She kept wondering about this, while her vision was blocked by Josh, who stepped ahead and opened the door for her. Getting the cue, she got out of the car, looking around with questions in her mind.
"You must be thinking about why I brought you here instead of taking you home," Josh spoke up, detecting the confusion in her. "But I was ordered to take you to his office."
"Oh? So your boss does possess that kind of minimum common sense, huh," Yvette looked up towards the building, and now that she was out of the car, her vision was way wider than inside of it. She could see the clear sign made with the brightest shade of white 'Midnight Glam'. She was rather worried in some part of her heart, about how she is supposed to act or what she is supposed to do when she faced so many unknown influential faces all at once, gawking at her weirdly. She was mentally preparing herself to be called a desperate clingy poor girl, and she was ready to talk back if needed. But since Irvyn would be accompanying her, guess Yvette can leave those hard parts to that arrogant boss guy.
Josh barely stifled a smile threatening to escape. He must say, this girl got lips sharper than any blade. He never imagined there would be someone bold enough to talk back given any situation.
"Interesting," he chuckled lightly to himself.
But somehow Yvette caught his voice a bit. "Excuse me?"
"Ah, no. It's nothing, Miss Yvette." He pressed his lips together tightly, making sure the smile didn't get escaped. "Let's get going." He stepped ahead, leading the way for her.
Josh led her towards the private elevator of the company, which leads straight to the CEO office. And Yvette silently followed him. Clutching the handbag of hers tightly against her chest, she stepped into the elevator, patiently waiting for it to close. For some reason, she started to have the feeling of being watched, which made her really uncomfortable. But there wasn't anyone else in the elevator besides Josh and her. So she discarded the feeling. "It must be because I have come here for the first time, which is totally out of my league," she kept telling that to herself in her mind, while the elevator door slid open after stopping at the top floor.
Josh signaled her to step out, and she followed the direction he pointed to, straight up ahead towards a glass door. The glass was mirrored so that no one from outside would be able to see what was happening inside of the office.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Nelson." A girl from their right spoke up, spotting Josh coming. Her eyes fell on Yvette, and a curious look was evident on her face.
"Good afternoon, Miss Teresa," he responded curtly, his face turning into that of the emotionless one.
"May I… know what business you exactly have here, miss?" This time, Teresa's question was directed at Yvette, a weird look on her face even though her voice sounded pretty much modest and soft.
"Ah, I…" Yvette was taken aback by the question. She didn't expect she would be getting this kind of question, even though she came in here with the secretary to the boss himself. And it would be too early and weird to boast about how she is the wife of the CEO of this company. That guy never revealed anything about it, at least she didn't see any news about it in the morning news portals.
But Josh cut in at the right time, replying on behalf of Yvette. "Miss Teresa, I thought you saw me there, and that's why you greeted me. If that wasn't the case, then maybe I should've just walked away ignoring you, and kept escorting this very special guest of boss," Josh flashed a grin at her, which was pretty obviously not so warm as anyone might think. And the girl Teresa immediately looked down to her feet, walking away from there.
"Sorry for the inconvenience, Miss Yvette," Josh turned to Yvette, looking apologetic a bit, with his usual warm nature to her.
"Nah, it's… fine," Yvette spoke up immediately, still processing the sudden change that occurred in this man within seconds. She couldn't help but ask, "You sure are strange. How do you manage to do this?"
"Do what?" not quite getting her words, he scratched his head.
"This sudden change of mood. Talented indeed," she remarked.
"A secretary needs to always act on toes, and should get serious at their work, instead of being goofy."
Both Josh and Yvette turned their heads ahead to the sudden ordering voice coming toward them. And without their realizing, Irvyn was standing in front of them, by the door of his office. "But somehow, this stupid secretary of mine chooses to never let go of his playful nature." Irvyn let out a sigh, giving a few glances to them. And without any further words, he went back inside to his room, leaving those two behind without any further directions.
"Come inside, Miss Yvette," Josh urged her to come inside, and he joined too. After the automatic door behind them was shut close, Josh almost jumped at Irvyn. "Oh my dear friend, you know acting all cold is not my cup of tea. I don't know why I need to carry the burden just because you are the antisocial one."
"Because if the secretary is all flirty and goofball, do you think anyone would give me even a percentage of respect I get now?" Irvyn glared at him. His eyes fell on the girl once again before moving back to Josh. "And you are still forgetting someone else is present here, secretary Josh."
"Oh Vinnie, please. Miss Yvette is someone close now. What's there to hide from her, and build a wall?" Josh clung to Irvyn, successfully gaining a scoff from Irvyn.
Yvette was slightly shocked to see this playfulness between them. They seemed quite close to be just coworkers, and the bond they shared was slightly obvious to her. But she never thought that they would be this close behind the door of corporate life.
