Chapter 11: The Guild Master

The wind picked up around Elaine when she began to cast a spell as I charged forward. I aimed for one left side of his legs, hoping to cut them away to make him an easier target to fight when he could move. But I stopped short and jumped back when Toro shrieked.

It wasn't a monstrous roar like all the times before, but a frightened cry of a creature in distress. Jumping away, I noticed that none of his legs were touching the ground, and he squirmed as if he had somehow gotten stuck in his own web.

"Are you the one doing this, Elaine?" I asked.

"No! I thought you were."

"Sorry, my magic skills are just fire and big explosions right now."

A crunchy sound mixed into Toro's cries as his body began to crack, and a gooey purple liquid poured out of him, and its scent burned my nose. Toro's cries grew louder and were so ear-piercing that I had to cover my ears, and I glanced away to ensure Lulu was okay, only to see she was the one keeping Toro at bay.
