Success

"Jerome, don't you think we've been waiting for too long now?" I couldn't help but ask while I was staring through the open window.

"What do you mean? It's only been a few hours now." Jerome looked at me as if I said something really crazy.

"Nah, you won't get it even if I tried explaining it to you." I couldn't help but sigh at that point.

Anyhow, I guess gossip and rumors hold power in this world as well. I mean, it should've been a no-brainer, but it took me quite some time to realize it.

Many noblemen sent me letters enquiring about the mass execution that I just did. And you could sense it. The panic, I mean. Like, most of the letters reeked of it. They were worried cuz they didn't know the actual reason behind what happened. And they're worried if they'd be tracked down because of their association with the said servant. But if you ask me, had they not sent panic mails to me like this, they would've had a chance to save their asses cuz I might be hella busy catching up to the ones who sent me the mails.

Other than all the panic mails, there were the good guys as well, I guess. When I say good guys, I mean the kind of people who have no right or reason to put their heads into my affairs, but they still do cuz of their sense of justice. I guess I should applaud their efforts and all, but this is not a democracy and I'm no hero. So, if they thought that I'd be listening to their "valuable advice", then they had it all twisted to be honest.

"What do you think happened to our lads?" I turned towards Jerome as I asked that question.

"Well, here's one thing I could say. The elite squad has never failed a mission that they were assigned, so I don't think you have to worry about that. They will do this with great success as well." Jerome assured me.

"Yea, I guess so. And by the way, you're gonna be a busy man from now on, eh?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" Jerome asked.

"Well, you are the one who happened to see the Grand Duke when he was sick on his bed and executed all those servants of his. You'll be bombarded with questions, don't you think?" I asked back.

"Ah, I guess that's true. But it's nothing new. So, I'll survive." Jerome smiled as he said that.

"Your highness!" One of the black hooded figures from my elite squad popped out of nowhere freaking me out.

However, since I had to maintain my dignity, I managed to recover quickly. "Oh, I didn't expect you to come back so quickly. So, where is the girl?" I asked.

"She's with her brother now, your majesty." The guy replied.

"Hmm, good job on succeeding the mission. Where is your leader, by the way?" I asked. I mean, it was the first time that someone other than her from the elite squad has talked to me. So, I was curious as to why she wasn't the one who delivered the news to me.

"The leader is busy covering all the tracks which is why sent me to deliver the message to you." The guy replied.

"I see. You can leave now. Good job." I flashed a little smile as I said that.

And it seemed like the guy was elated by just the sight of it.

"Thank you, my lord!" He replied as he happily whooshed his way out of there.

"Okay, now that it is done, shall we go and meet Reeve and his little sister?" I turned towards Jerome, who nodded his head in agreement.

During the entire duration of this operation which lasted a few hours, I had made the conscious decision to hide Reeve in a room close to mine because if for my damn luck someone managed to get a glimpse of him and reported it to Myghell, then it would get hella difficult for me to pull any sort of move on him.

Which is why, it wasn't that difficult for me to walk over to where the two of them were. I did think of barging in without any notice, but I could easily hear the both of them crying their hearts out even from the outside.

"Yea, maybe I shouldn't just go in right now." I mumbled.

"That would be for the better. You go do what you want to and I'll wait here and ask the two to head over to where you are when they are done." Jerome spoke.

"Sometimes I wonder if you are my physician or my butler. I mean, I know I have told this to you already, but damn! Like, you don't have to do meager tasks like that, you know?" I couldn't help but shrug at that point.

"It's fine. It's not like I hate doing it or anything." Jerome replied with a smile on his face.

"Yea, no. If you're planning to stake here, then I'm doing that as well." I don't know why I was so stubborn about that, but I just couldn't help it at that point.

"You do know that it would be more suspicious to see you stand guard in a supposedly locked room, right?" He asked.

"True that! Then let's make it so that it doesn't look like we are staking this place." I replied as I ran towards my room.

"Yea, as if this is gonna help." Jerome sighed as he saw me place the chess board on the ground.

"I mean, why not! I'll bring in a couple of drinks and it will be as if we just happened to be so drunk that we forgot the fact that we are playing in the middle of the hallway." I replied as I popped back up.

"You're not going anywhere! You're still a recovering patient. I mean, sure I can't see the traces of the poison in you anymore, but still I can't allow you to run around like that." Jerome mumbled as he went to get the drinks.
