Force to be reckoned with

"What's going on, my lord?" Random maid number ninety nine was feeling confused as to why I was playing chess on the ground.

"How dare you question the choices of our Lord!" Jerome acted up right in that moment which freaked out the random maid to the point that she started running as fast as she could.

"Well, that was quite effective." I couldn't help but chuckle at what Jerome did there.

"I mean, sometimes you gotta do the unthinkable to make people stay in their lane." Jerome spoke.

"You are absolutely right about that." I nodded my head.

Although he was just talking about the maid there, I couldn't help but think of what he said based on what's going on in my life. Like, if I'm going to put Duke Myghell and everyone else in their lane, I gotta have to do the unthinkable and freak them all out in one go.

"Should I just knock on the door at this point? Like, they're taking a long ass time!" Jerome sighed.

He was right. They were indeed taking a long time. But it wasn't something that I didn't expect. However, that doesn't mean that waiting out like this wasn't tiring.

"I mean, they are taking their sweet time, but ruining their moment just because we can't wait a bit longer is bullshit, you know?" I shrugged as I said that.

"I guess you're right about that." Jerome nodded his head in agreement at that point.

Just as we were both feeling hella tired of waiting around like that, the door behind us creaked open and Reeve came sliding on his knees.

"I'm so sorry, my Lord! I shouldn't have kept you waiting!" He cried.

"Well, we weren't waiting that long." I chuckled as I said that.

"No, my Lord. I know that you were waiting for a long time. I just had to make sure that my sister sleeps well. After all, she told me that she was having quite the nightmares recently. So, I had to let her sleep with me by her side so that she doesn't get those nightmares anymore." Reeve explained.

"So, you knew that the Grand Duke was waiting outside and yet you thought that it would be fine if you didn't inform him about that? I mean, had you done that, you could've saved a lot of precious time that he lost waiting for you here." Jerome spoke.

"I'm sorry, my Lord! I was short sighted on that. I never should've kept you waiting like that." Reeve was this close to crying, which kinda surprised me to be honest. After all, this was one of the first times that I saw raw emotions in his face like that.

"It's fine. I mean, sure I did have to wait for a long time, but I guess it was all worth it in the end." I gave out a light smile as I said that. "Anyhow, now that your sister is sleeping peacefully, shall we have the talk that we were putting off this entire time?" I asked.

"Yes, my Lord!" Reeve nodded his head as he said that.

"Great. Let's move to my room then." I said as I got up from the ground.

"I will tell you all about who all are the people conspiring to kill you, my Lord!" Reeve spoke.

"I know that you will. But is that it?" I asked.

"What do you mean, my Lord?" Reeve looked quite confused as he asked that.

"Well, I expected a lot more from you, you know?" I shrugged as I said that.

"Oh… wait! I'm sorry, my Lord! This Reeve pledges the whole of his life to the Grand Duke!" He bowed his head down as he said that.

"Are you sure about that? I mean, that is a big task, you know? Do you know the weight behind your words?" I asked.

"I do, my Lord. I'm willing to sacrifice my life for you." Reeve replied.

"Great. Then let's do just that." I spoke.

"Excuse me, my Lord?" Reeve looked really confused at that point. I guess he didn't want to die as soon as he reunited with his sister.

"Well, I'm not going to sacrifice you or anything. I just see quite a bit of talent in you. Which is why I want you to go under my elite squad and train their way. And then return and serve under me as my eyes and my ears. And in turn, I'll grant you something that you dearly wish for; the absolute safety of your sister." I replied.

Reeve took a big gulp at that point. And he can't be blamed for that. I mean, Jerome told me that the training for the elite squad was even harder than what the imperial army did, which is why there are only a few members in this. And on top of standard training, they also have to undergo stealth training, which meant that the training was meant to be even harder than normal. And that's why I would've understood if the kid decided not to undergo the training.

However, I guess I took the kid too lightly. "I'll do it, my Lord!" Reeve said with conviction.

"Is that so? Great then! From tomorrow, you'll be training under the squad leader. And make sure to come back as quickly as possible, you get me?" I asked.

"Yes, my Lord. I won't disappoint you." Reeve replied.

"Great. You can leave now." I waved my arm upon which Reeve left the room. "You heard me, right?" I looked up at the ceiling as I asked.

"Yes, my Lord! I will train the kid as you have instructed me to." The squad leader spoke.

"Hmm, good. What do you think about the kid?" I asked.

"Well, the kid has a lot of heart. And I believe that if he keeps training with that mentality of his, he will be a force to be reckoned with." She replied.

"Yea, I hope that would be the case as well." I mumbled.
