«I don't understand,» Neven said while driving on the dark road. The lights were turned off for some reason, even though they were crossing a highway. It was eerie, but Vera didn't seem to notice anything amiss.

Maybe, those lights used to be off more often than not. Or, likely, she was focusing on something else - which would make more sense.

«What is it?» she said, waking up and turning to him in the car. She had been staring at the signals, seeing the numbers with the kilometres reduce a couple at a time. But never fast enough.

«Why are they doing this? Targeting your friend... His girlfriend, to be precise. What's the point?»

«Do you think they found out about what we're trying to do?»

«It's too soon. We've barely made a move. They couldn't reach your friend in a matter of minutes like that. This was planned beforehand. For what? To bait you there?»

«Maybe,» Vera sighed. «Now they can't just order me to be where they want me to be.»
