32 The World behind the Window

“Alexis”

The blue light was shining so bright but when she blinked, she found that it was the eyes of Michael.

“Wake up?” He moved back to let her see the white light on the ceiling. The veins in her head danced drastically as if someone drummed on it. She made herself to sit and, “Where…” Her throat was dry and it caused her cough. “…cough…Where…”

Michael sent her a glass of water. Alexis drank it all and felt the water bathed her organs which meant her stomach was empty. Starving, she was starving.

He handed her bread as if he could read her mind. The girl ate in in one bite. Michael laughed and sat on the bed.

“What happened?” She asked her only friend.

“You fainted.”

“No, before that.”
