I woke up with my face pressed against cold, hard, wet ground made of black stone. My head throbbed and it was hard to breathe. My vision was blurry but I could hear the sound of rushing water echoing in the distance.
As my eyes adjusted, I noted the soft glow of torches nearby and began to make out the finer details of the cave that I was in. I began to move. Sitting up, I noticed my hands were tightly bound by rope.
I sat up and moved until my back was supported by the stone wall. I was grateful to be alive. But, I couldn’t help feeling that whatever Josuan had planned, it might actually be worse than death.
Resting my head on my knees, I tried to think what it was that Josuan could possibly want me for. I recalled him saying something about the truth of my pregnancy being worth something to him. I thought of the trouble he’d gone through targeting Alphas and wondered if he was interested in knowing if my baby was an Alpha as well. What would he do if so?
