CHAPTER 25: THE SHOCKING BILL
Fidel gave Kai a stare for saying something that made his own wife miss a step. Kai turned his head away.
Ryan didn't have an adventure that day. In fact, his day was boring with thoughts of I would have crushed that bitch to death if it were me.
Fidel was having a great day. It begun with the staff smiling when they saw him with a lady and smiled even more when they recognised this lady as the one who took over when Fidel was away. The camera man was rolling with happiness because this was a day he would take a picture of his boss and his madam together at work. Wasn't it great?
This was the same day Fidel was feeling like walking on the clouds because his wife was now active and happy. She even personally put his tie back in place while they were inside the elevator. He was the world's happiest man today.
"Umm... I think I have a two minutes briefing with the staff." After a while of settling in the office, Fidel picked out a file and stood up.
"No... Let me handle that please." She took the file in his hand and walked out, then into the elevator. The staff members were waiting when she arrived instead of the boss. God, she was so gorgeous everyone gasped.
"Umm... Am here to brief you in place of your boss." Lian sighed as she looked at the staff she worked with for three days. She went ahead and gave the staff briefings before closing the file.
"Anyone with a question? The management won't change as I said." Lian said politely.
"Madam, you and boss are the cutest couple I've ever seen on this earth." One staff member said. Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Thanks ma'am." Lian smiled and walked out.
Meanwhile...
The Grand hotel was in preparation for a special guest whom Mrs Oliver didn't want to expose for reasons best known to her. Everyone was curious.
"I can't wait to see who made me work my ass out the whole say." Lucy said with beaming eyes. "If he's man, good heavens am single."
"That's an idea on its own. You never stop shocking me daily." Eva said but didn't mean anything bad. The girls weren't touched either. On her way out, a guy was at the door bargaining to get in.
"Am sorry we can't let you in. We're expecting a special visitor and he booked the whole hotel." Lucy said politely.
Eva passed her on her way out. "Its funny telling someone that. They'll rarely believe you." She laughed.
"Girl, be safe."
"Bye!"
Also, in hospital.
When Anes heard what happened to Kate, he rushed to hospital and found his father lamenting about the bill. He had requested the doctors to discharge her the following day even though she wasn't back to her feet yet.
"I don't know how to react, you provoke the lion, it shows you his claws." Anes joked not knowing how serious the situation was. But when the bill was read out to him, his face drastically changed.
"We can't even raise one million, talk less of ten million in one day. Wait, how did the bill even get there?" he was shocked.
"She is in a self contained room receiving first class treatment plus all the charges of medication. I can give you the list sir." The doctor smiled politely.
"Can you please stop smiling? This isn't anywhere close to deserving smiles." At this point, Anes saw the downfall of his own family and for the first time he was taking everything serious.
"I have a card." Kate gave them the card Lian had gave her. Anes rushed to checked it. Boom! Blocked. Now everyone's face was ugly. This only meant selling their company even though they doubted it can raise the needed amount.
"But dad, that's not possible! It's our only source of income!" Anes got angry also. "You people should simply go to Lian and ask for forgiveness. What is this?"
"Am still sick!" Kate said.
"Sick?" Anes sneered. "You are perfectly in shape" even though Anes was seeing the disfigured face, he still said that. "You're being discharged today. Forget the tomorrow that dad said."
"I can't go home today. I need to at least get better. I can't let people look at me like this!" Kate was getting annoyed.
"If you can argue with me right now, then you are perfectly fine. In fact, no one, not even I will look at your ugly face. I don't want my mood spoilt every time by looking at that face. I said, and no one is arguing with me. That's final!" Anes said firmly.
"Dad... Say something. Talk your lunatic son out please!" Kate begged senior Jones who was lost of words and didn't have the strength to argue.
"Dad... Really. You want someone with a broken jaw to argue for your sake? That is a joke." Anes said. Senior Jones felt like kicking his own son. Was that not making fun of his own father? "In fact I changed my mind, you're going just now. Let me get you the discharge letter. Evening maybe long." And off he went. Kate now wanted to cry.
"Dad, please call mama for me. Even if things didn't go well between you two, it's time we get her motherly support now." Kate cried because she wasn't taking it anymore. Anes came with the discharge letter after half an hour with the hospital management telling them if they didn't settle the bill within a week, they would come repossess anything that could add up to clear the bill.
"Do you prefer walking or being pushed on a wheelbarrow? I sold the family car to pay quarter of the bill." Anes said looking at Kate who was now sitting by the bed.
"You!" Kate was shocked.
"This happened because of you two you know? Don't point fingers at me. The car was sold at a lower price and I had to use the money Lian gave to me to add up to cover quarter of it. "
