A romantic ambiance

Édouard hid the wool behind his back when Charlotte suddenly barged into his study room. He quickly held the quill pen from the desk and glanced at her. Seeing the tray in her hand, he almost got up when Charlotte asked him to stay seated. She placed the tray on the study desk and looked at the pile of documents.

"You could have asked a servant to carry it here," Édouard said and gazed at the Marzipans. "Did you make these?" he asked and picked up the one.

"Yes," Charlotte replied. "You love them, so I made a few," she stated while pouring tea for Édouard. "Charles told me your work is finished, yet you were here. Why?" she inquisitively asked him.

"I had to look into these documents," Édouard replied, not wanting her to know that he was learning knitting. It was a surprise, which he wanted to give her on the first snowfall, which they both would witness together.
