  “Finally,” I said as we parked the car.

  Our journey here had been from hell! It took two hours longer than it should have — we got a flat tire on the way and lost Ben and Lola after lunch. They arrived here an hour ago, but it seemed to be one thing after another for Ryland and me. We were exhausted.

  “Yes!” he agreed.

  I let out a small laugh; it was either I laugh or cry, and laughing seemed like the better option. The main thing was we got here safe. Ryland’s mom and her partner, Melissa and Jack, were already here helping Brian, who happened to be Jack’s son, move his stuff into his apartment, so I got Ryland to text Peter from my phone to say we would be at our new address soon. I also told him to wait until tomorrow since it was already after six p.m., but my newly discovered biological father insisted he would come tonight. I was happy he made the choice to still come.
