Zumwraek was not sure how he had gotten into this mess. He had just wanted to get away from his parents so they could have some time alone and he found himself lost and hungry in this dark alleyway. All he really wanted to do at that moment was find something to eat and drink but then these two people had started arguing over who should pay him. Zumwraek didn't want anything, all he wanted to do was go home to his mom and eat dinner, maybe watch a movie with her if she wasn't too tired. But no, these two people wanted to throw him out on the street because apparently he wasn't worth enough to be able to afford food or money.
Zumwraek felt tears welling up in his eyes as he thought about it. These people were wrong; there weren't any more people like him, he was the last one left, everyone else had been killed or infected long ago. His eyes burned with unshed tears and his vision blurred as his breathing started to become faster and more erratic.
A sudden movement made Zumwraek snap back to reality and he looked around nervously trying to see where the source of movement had come from. Just as he turned around to look behind him his stomach rumbled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten since lunchtime yesterday. He was starving!
It took him another minute but finally Zumwraek made it to where he'd seen a light at the end of the alleyway. There was still someone there, whoever they were they must not be infected if they were eating, Zumwraek decided. When Zumwraek got closer to the end of the alleyway he noticed there was also another person there. This was going to be harder than he thought, he was going to have to talk to the other person before he could make it through the door without being attacked. Luckily Zumwraek knew exactly what he was doing, although it might take a bit longer than he originally planned.
When Zumwraek reached the doorway he paused to catch his breath, he wasn't used to walking so fast. Once he felt like he could breathe again he pushed open the door and stepped inside. As soon as he did though he stopped short when he saw what was waiting for him. It was a man dressed in all black sitting by the window eating a bag of chips, his hood was pulled down and his face was covered by an orange baseball cap. Zumwraek wondered if he recognized this person, even if he wasn't infected he couldn't be human, right?
After staring awkwardly for several seconds, Zumwraek decided that this guy needed a distraction, if anyone asked he could say it was his fault that they were both standing around in an abandoned building without anything edible in their hands. "Hey, um… are you okay?" Zumwraek whispered, keeping his voice steady so the other person wouldn't freak out.
The stranger jumped slightly, clearly startled at the sound of Zumwraek's voice. Turning towards the newcomer, the stranger's eyes widened a little when he recognized Zumwraek. "Who the hell are you?! Are you gonna try to rob me or something? Because I don't think that will go over very well with my family..." The stranger spoke in a thick Australian accent.
Zumwraek shook his head as he walked forward towards the table and pulled up a chair next to the mysterious person. "No, nothing like that… Um, my name is… Zumw--" He hesitated, unsure of how to introduce himself, "I mean, uh I'm Zumwraek, I'm a klepto and I live nearby…"
He heard the stranger snicker next to him. "What kind of stupid name is that anyway?
