Josiah’s P.O.V
I didn’t hear from Malik for a matter of days after rejecting his proposal. With Alois and Cora dealt with, I found myself busy with restorations to the house. I was able to hire more staff and organize different papers that held any debts my father hadn’t paid off before he died.
Matthias was a big help, helping out in the garden with Eva and the gardener while I tended to the inside staff. I did still prefer going out to the market myself if and when we needed something; being out in the fresh air was a decent distraction. Especially if I had the off chance of running into Levi.
Despite standing up for myself to Malik, a feeling of paranoia overwhelmed me. While the courage was good to have, there was a part of me that felt like I was putting up an act. Even if it was all an act, I wasn’t lying when I told him I wasn’t going to let him treat me like a trophy. I knew I was better than something to show off.
