Chapter 36: Not your Cinderella

Josiah’s P.O.V

The pounding of my heart was no better than roaring thunder. My breathing was sharp. Every breath stabbed at me while freezing me at my core. My legs screamed at me to stop running all the while my mind demanded I find somewhere safe. I needed a place to hide myself from Malik’s madness and obsession with me.

My ears started to ring. My head grew light from lack of oxygen as I panted to get said oxygen into my aching lungs. My vision started to blur and for a moment I feared I’d pass out before I was safe. All the plants and flowers blurred past me in a rainbow streak.

I tore my coat off of me no sooner than I had passed the underbrush. All the layers were slowing me down, but I preferred it rather than streaking through the hedges shirtless or in the worst possibility—in the nude. Gods above know that it would do wonders with the sun burning me to a crisp.
